A drug, broadly speaking is any substance that when absorbed into the body of a living organism, alters normal bodily function. Actually there are two types of drugs. They are legal drugs and illegal drugs.

Medicines, cigarettes and alcohol are the legal drugs. Medicines are the drugs that we consume for the treatment of a sickness. Medicines are the drugs that are doctors are allowed to prescribe them for patients, stores can sell them and people are allowed to buy them. Cigarettes and alcohol are other two kinds of legal drugs. Only adults 18 and above can buy it. Smoking habit and excessive drinking are not healthy for adults too.

The illegal drugs refer to drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and heroin. A person tries drugs to fit in with a group of friends. They might be curious or just bored. The often reason can be get from every investigation on drugs addiction is drugs are help to escape from reality for a while. It might make a person to feel better from sad and upset or forget about problems temporarily.

People undergo many changes in their activities when they become addicted to these drugs. They will face changes by mentally and physically. The students might lose interest in school. People that are using drugs are change friends, become moody, negative, cranky, or worried all the time and ask to be left alone a lot. They also facing trouble in their concentration about a matter. They oso sleep a lot and get in fights. They usually will have red or puffy eye, lose or gain weight, cough a lot and have runny nose all of the time.

The drugs cause many effects on the people using it. Its realy very bad for a kid or teen whose body is still growing. It can cause a heart attack even in a kid or teen. Use of drug also can damage the brain, heart, and other important organs. Usage of drugs causes diminished ability to learn, remember, and solve problems. The fatty tissues protecting the nerve cells in the brain are destroyed. The drug user impairs judgment and leads to memory lapses.

The main cause of drug addicts is less of family values. Family values vital for a forming of a person with good attitudes and behavior. This drug addiction social issue happens due to the gradual erosion of family values. The family which is not functioning properly is causing the erosion of family values. Absence of proper communication between family members, absence of togetherness in family and parents are not devoting enough time to inculcate positive values in the families are causing this social issue. The increase in divorces, single parents and child minders and neglect, despair and resentment due to problems in family are causing the erosion of family values and indirectly causing this kind of social issue.

We as a public can solve this social issue. We are having that responsibility too. We should tell an adult that we trust such as parents, relative, teacher, coach or school counselor about the drug addicted people. There are some professional help to stop using drugs. So the drug addicted people can ask for their help too. We should stop using the drugs except for a medication propose.

Im Piremalatha D/O Karunanithe, from unit J13 (PPISMP) class BT/PJ/KS. By doing this assignment I feel happy because I as a student could gain some knowledge about the way writing essay. While doing this task, I learn how to identify the main points from a article, and how to complete an essay with the points that taken from the articles. I collected articles regarding the issue that I choose about from internet and newspaper and find for points that can be used to write down an essay regarding the points that I got from the articles.

In doing this assignment, I consult my English Language Proficiency 1 lecturer Madam Punethawathi and ask for her advices to complete my assignment. I work together with her and make the assignment look much better.

Second thing is I think that my English had improved a little bit in process to ready the entire thing about this task. I also asked my senior, discussed with my friends in order to finish up this assignment. All those things teach me to be independent and confident with ourselves.

Lastly, I were happy because can finished out this task successfully. I really hope I can do something that can be proud of, not just as task.
