Watertown High School Class of 2013 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

The Valedictorian is Siraj A. Sindhu, son of Dr. Khalid and Mrs. Nabeela Sindhu. Siraj is the president of the WHS Student Council, the president of the Model UN, the Whiz Quiz Team president and the vice president of the Interact Club. He is the president of the schools Key Club as well as the president of the WHS Book Club. Siraj is a Rotary Leadership Institute graduate and co-captain of the high schools Science Olympiad Team. He serves as co-captain of the Varsity Boys Basketball team, co-captain of the Varsity Boys Tennis team and is a member of the National Honor Society. Siraj volunteers at the Carthage Area Hospital where he interned with cardiologist Dr. Mirza Ashraf, at North Country Urology, PC where he interned with Dr. Mohsin Ali,MD, at Samaritan Medical Center where he cared for ER patients, aided nurses and biomedical engineers and at Camp Hollis in Oswego. Sirajs current GPA is 98.65 Siraj plans to enter the Pre-Med program at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts in the fall where he will also major in English or political science.

The Salutatorian is Mark Derbyshire, son of Dr. Rachel E. Lewis and Mr. Roger Johnson and the late Dr. Garrett J. Derbyshire. Mark is the president of the National Honor Society and the president of the Foreign Language Club. He plays alto saxophone in the Watertown High School Wind Ensemble and participates in Cross Fit. Mark is an Eagle Scout and organized and carried out an Eagle Project to construct a kiosk for the Jefferson County Water and Soil Conservation District. Mark is a sailing instructor for the Crescent Yacht Club Junior Division where he teaches children ages 6 16. Marks current GPA is 97.75. Mark plans to enter Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in the fall where he will major in biology.
