Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics

(with specialisations in Industrial / Bio-Statistics) The PG Diploma in Applied Statistics Programme (PGDAST) is offered by the Statistics discipline of the School of Sciences, by a challenging distance teaching-learning process. This programme would cater to the needs not only of the working professionals in Industries, National laboratories, R & D Organizations, Pharmacy, Academic Institutions but also be useful for all the Graduates aspiring to get employment in all these places. There is too combat competition at the national and international levels, therefore, the working professionals in Industries i.e. Software Industry, Chemical Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry, etc. and need to be academically revitalized in using statistical tools for total quality management for good data handling; for testing of drugs and for other analytical techniques. The PGDAST programme widens the scope of the learners to continue his/ her education and to develop the professional careers in different sectors of employment by providing the knowledge and hands on training in the selected areas of Statistics. This programme acquaints the learners with the use of statistical tools in analysis of the industrial and pharmaceutical data. The programme comprises a total of 8 courses worth 32 credits in all, one eighth being the practical component. This programme consists of 5 core, 2 electives and 1 practical courses. However, this programme offers specialisations in the areas of Industrial Statistics and BioStatistics, a candidate can opt either of these specialisations and each specialisation has 2 courses each of 4 credits. This programme will acquaint the learners with the basic knowledge of Descriptive Statistics, Probability & Probability distributions, Statistical Inference, Sampling, Experimental Designs and Generation of Random Numbers along with the Fundamentals of Mathematics and Statistics. This programme also make familiar to the learners with Quality control, Reliability, Optimisation Techniques, Regression and Time Series Modeling with their applications under the Industrial Statistics specialisation whereas Bio-assay, Epidemiology, Clinical Trials, Categorical Data Analysis, Regression and Multiple Regression Modeling and Survival Analysis with their applications under the Bio-Statistics specialisation. Eligibility: Graduation in any discipline with minimum of 50% marks from a recognised University. Programme Fee: Rs. 6000/Duration of the Programme: 1 year - 3 years.
