Model PHA-1000
The PHA-1000 analyzer is a portable gas chromatograph optimized for rapid and accurate measurement of dissolved hydrogen in oil.
DETECT TRANSFORMER FAULTS AT THEIR EARLIEST STAGE Hydrogen is produced to a greater or lesser extent by all transformer faults. Using the PHA-1000 analyzer regularly is therefore the most cost-efficient way of screening transformers for the presence of faults.
MORGAN SCHAFFER SYSTEMS leads the way in providing the electrical industry, worldwide, with innovative and reliable field instruments for the early detection and diagnosis of faults in oil-filled electrical equipment.
EASIEST WAY OF TESTING SUSPECT TRANSFORMERS BETWEEN SCHEDULED ROUTINE DGA TESTS.
THE SHAKE TEST SYRINGE The Shake Test syringe is a unique device used to extract fault gases from transformer oil by shaking a fixed amount of oil with a fixed amount of ambient air (refer to MSS Technical Bulletin MS-30 for a complete description of the sample preparation procedure). The resulting gas sample is then injected in the PHA-1000 analyzer for rapid measurement of dissolved hydrogen.

The performance of regular tests using the PHA-1000 is instrumental in detecting and monitoring the severity of incipient faults as shown in this graph of a 735 kV single phase transformer known to have a partial discharge problem.
COST BENEFITS Operating and capital costs as well as consequential damages can be avoided by using the PHA-1000 analyzer regularly: Confirm the presence or absence of a fault in the event of an alarm Reduce unplanned outages Reduce downtime on false alarms Optimize your maintenance schedule Better control load on equipment known to have faults Prevent equipment failure and production losses Monitor critical equipment during re-energizing or commissioning Monitor less critical equipment at a lower cost
FEATURES Simple design and microprocessor-based electronics Hydrogen specific Measurement in less than 2 minutes High sensitivity and wide range Rechargeable gel-cell battery
TECHNICAL BENEFITS No special training required Fast, accurate and repeatable results Analysis of GAS samples eliminates possibilities of cross contamination Can be used to test all kinds of oil-filled electrical equipment, including LTC's, CTs and PTs Good for 15 hours of continuous field use
IF SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF HYDROGEN ARE DETECTED, OIL SAMPLES SHOULD BE OBTAINED FOR A COMPLETE DGA ANALYSIS, EITHER ON-SITE OR AT THE LABORATORY.
three
Prepare one of the samples by mixing the oil with ambient air and shaking vigorously the syringe for extracting fault gases. Once the gas/liquid equilibrium has been reached (after a total shaking time of 60 seconds), inject the gas phase in the analyzer.
four
A reading is obtained in less than 60 seconds. An additional time of approximately 60 seconds is required for completing the test cycle.
