Note: If you do not register during installation, there is a quick and easy link from the Help menu to the HP Data Protector Express Software website so that you can obtain your permanent license key after installation. Note: An evaluation license enables HP Data Protector Express Software and all available options for the 60 day evaluation period. Note: Once HP Data Protector Express Software is installed options are enabled by acquiring and installing the appropriate license key.
License keys
All editions of HP Data Protector Express Software are based on the same software, but each edition has a separate base license key that enables the features of that edition. Purchasable options also have their own license keys. The license keys for the options are added via the HP Data Protector Express Software interface after the software is installed and the permanent license key entered. The registration process for purchasable options is the same as for the base product and required for each purchasable option. If you are running HP Data Protector Express Software Single Server Edition and you purchase an upgrade to HP Data Protector Express Software, you will receive a new base license key, which you add via the user interface. Once installed this will enable the full features of HP Data Protector Express Software. See also How do I enter a license key? in Tutorial 4.
For HP Data Protector Express Software Single Server Edition (included with HP tape drive tape autoloaders and entry-level virtual tape libraries) The Entitlement Certificate is supplied electronically. It is in the \doc directory on the software CD-ROM. This can be accessed directly or by selecting Get License Key on the Splash screen that runs when you insert the HP Data Protector Express Software Single Server Edition CD-ROM.
The Registration Number is in the top right-hand corner of the Entitlement Certificate. NOTE: The HP Data Protector Express Software installation process creates a doc directory in the installation folder. On Windows, by default this is C:\Program Files\HP\Data Protector Express\doc\License Key Entitlement Certificate\. The Entitlement Certificate is copied to this directory.
At the HP Authorization Centre: 1. Click Generate a license key. Enter the Registration Number from the Entitlement Certificate into the Registration number or Product authorization key field. Click Next.
2. Complete the requested information and click Next to display the Certificate screen with your license key. Make a note of your license key. Or, to get it sent to your e-mail account, click E-mail at the bottom of this screen.
In these cases see: How do I enter a license key? in Tutorial 5. How do I upgrade my software? in Tutorial 5.
