Easter Sunday

April 12, 2009

In many respects I find an un-resurrected Jesus easier to

accept. Easter makes him dangerous. Because of Easter
I have to listen to his extravagant claims and can no
longer pick and choose from his sayings. Moreover,
Easter means he must be loose out there somewhere.
– Philip Yancey
We are missional Anglicans seeking the kingdom of God
in our hearts, our homes, our church and our world.

As you enter the church, please prepare your heart for worship.
The Prelude
Beautiful Savior
All my days I will sing the song of gladness
Give my praise to the fountain of delights
For in my helplessness, you hear my cry
And waves of mercy poured down on my life
I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer
I will sing of the Lamb that never fails
Of sins forgiven, of conscience cleared
Of death defeated and life without end
(Chorus)
Beautiful Savior, wonderful counselor
Clothed in majesty, Lord of history
You're the way, the truth and the life
Star of the morning, glorious in holiness
You're the risen one, heaven's champion
And you reign, you reign over all
I long to be where the praise is never ending
Yearn to dwell where the glory never fades
Where countless worshippers will share one song
And cries of ‘worthy’ will honor the Lamb

Mighty To Save
Everyone needs compassion
Love that's never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness
The kindness of a Savior
The hope of nations
(Chorus)
Savior, He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever, Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave
So take me as You find me
All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in
Now I surrender
(Bridge)
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing for the glory, of the risen King Jesus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing for the glory, of the risen King

death of the cross, and by his glorious resurrection delivered us from the

The First Lesson: Acts 10:34-43

Lector: The Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

6
The Psalm
The psalm will be read as prompted by the Lector.

Psalm 118
14The LORD is my strength and my might; *
he has become my salvation.
15There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous: *
‘The right hand of the LORD does valiantly;
16the right hand of the LORD is exalted; *
the right hand of the LORD does valiantly.’
17I shall not die, but I shall live, *
and recount the deeds of the LORD.
18The LORD has punished me severely, *
but he did not give me over to death.
19Open to me the gates of righteousness, *
that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.
20This is the gate of the LORD; *
the righteous shall enter through it.
21I thank you that you have answered me *
and have become my salvation.
22The stone that the builders rejected *
has become the chief cornerstone.
23This is the LORD’s doing; *
it is marvellous in our eyes.
24This is the day that the LORD has made; *
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
25Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! *
O LORD, we beseech you, give us success!
26Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD. *
We bless you from the house of the LORD.
27The LORD is God, and he has given us light. *
Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.
28You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; *
you are my God, I will extol you.
29O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, *

for his steadfast love endures for ever.

The Celebrant then says to the congregation
Let us now pray for this child who is to receive the Sacrament of new birth.

Grant, O Lord, that all who are baptized into the death of Jesus Christ your Son
may live in the power of his resurrection and look for him to come again in
glory; who lives and reigns now and for ever. Amen.

11
The Thanksgiving over the Water
The Celebrant blesses the water, first saying
Celebrant The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Celebrant
We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water.
Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation.
Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage
in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus
received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy
Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death
and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are
buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his
resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit.
Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his
fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in
the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
At the following words, the Celebrant touches the water
Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your
Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and
born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus
Christ our Savior.
To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and
glory, now and for ever. Amen.

The Baptism
The candidate is presented by name to the Celebrant who then pours water
upon the candidate, saying
Isaac, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

12
When this action has been completed for the candidate, the Priest, at a place in
full sight of the congregation, prays over him, saying
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy
Spirit you have bestowed upon these your servants the
forgiveness of sin, and have raised them to the new life of
grace. Sustain them, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give them
an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to
persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy
and wonder in all your works. Amen.

The priest then charges the parents.

You must remember, that it is your responsibility to see that this child is
taught, as soon as he is able to learn, what a solemn vow, promise, and
profession he has made by you. It is your duty to see that he is raised in the
community of the Church; that from a young age he is taught the scriptures,
and learns the Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and the Ten Commandments; and
that this Child may be virtuously brought up to lead a godly and a Christian
life; remembering always that Baptism represents our commitment to follow
the example of our Saviour Christ, and to grow into his likeness; that, as he
died, and rose again for us, so should we, who are baptized, die from sin, and
rise again to righteousness; dying to self and living for the Lord.

Upon completion of the baptism, the Celebrant says

Let us welcome the newly baptized.

Celebrant and People

We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith
of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and share with
us in his eternal priesthood.

The Peace
Celebrant May the peace of the Lord be always with you.
People And also with you.

And in the end He will reign on the earth
Though my flesh it be destroyed
Yet with my eyes I will see God
(Chorus)
For I know that my Redeemer lives
And I will stand with Him on that day
