ANSWERS AND EXPLANATIONS

1. (4) The series is 3; 32 1; 33 2; 4; 42 1; 43 2 hence, 1; 12 1; 13 2; 2; 22 1; 23 2. 2. (1) The series is (7 1) 1 = 6; (6 2) 2 = 10; (10 3) 3 = 27; (27 4) 4... The new series would be (3 1) 1 = 2; (2 2) 2 = 2. 3. (4) The series would be 5 1 + 1; 6 2 + 2; 14 3 + 3; 45 4 + 4; 184 5 + 5 = 925. 4. (3) It is a series of prime numbers, i.e. 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29. 5. (2) One number is added to 3 and the next one is multiplied by 3. 6. (2) It is a series of squares; 82; 92; 102; 112; 122 and 132. For solving the next set of questions, write all the alphabets in a circle and number them from 1 to 26. Check the order to find the oddman out. Consider the numbers as the value of letters. 7. (3) 8. (5) 9. (2) 10. (5) 11. (2) Deduct the value of the first letter from the second one. 12. (4) Add the values of the capital letters and deduct the value of small letter from that number. 13. (5) The first letters of the series are DEFGH, the second one YXWVU and the third one have a gap H-J-L-N-P. 14. (3) Apply the same method as mentioned in question no.

13. 15. (3) In all the others, all the letters are from the main word. This one has an extra M. 16. (3) All the others are on the banks of river Ganga. 17. (1) All the others are European countries, this one is the continent. 18. (4) All the others are root vegetables. 19. (1) All the others are exclusively measurements for liquids. 20. (4) All the others have horn. 21. (2) One is taken out from the other after a certain process. 22. (4) Both are made from the same material. 23. (5) The two are antonyms. 24. (2) One is a frame for the other. 25. (1) One is comprised of the other small units. For answering the next type of questions, study each figure of the set independently as well as in its relationship with the other figures. Follow its movements in the next steps carefully and then reach the final conclusion and find out the right answer figure. The following guidelines might prove helpful in finding the correct answer. (i) The figures generally move right-left, up-down, corner to corner, clockwise, anti-clockwise or along certain points. (ii) All the figures occurring in one question need not move in the same direction or at the same pace. The movement may be uniform or according to a set pace, e.g. a step may be added with each movement or may be decreased. The figures may swing, change direction or turn upside down during movements. (Examples: 26, 27, 29, 30, 32, 39, 42, 43, 49, 51, 53, etc.). (iii) Something may be added or dropped in the steps to come. (Examples: 32, 35, 36, 40, 45, 48, 51, etc.). (iv) The figures may interchange places according to a set pattern. (Examples: 34, 46, 50, etc.). (v) The figures might change after a set of two or three and the next set may follow the same pattern. (Examples: 38, 47 etc.). ( vi ) Some questions may have a combination of the characteristics mentioned above. 26. (C) 27. (E) 28. (D) 29. (C) 30. (A) 31. (D) 32. (B) 33. (B) 34. (D) 35. (B) 36. (D) 37. (E) 38. (A) 39. (B) 65. (A) 66. (D) In all the others, one figure has two lines, one three and one four. 67. (B) In all the others, the outer figure has two sides more than the inner figure. 68. (D) In all the others, the three figures are alike. 69. (B) In all the others, three figures face the same side and one faces some other direction. Here they are in sets of two. 70. (E) The arrangement of figures inside one another is wrong. 71. (B) In all the others, the figures fit into one another to make a square. 72. (C) In all the others, all the sides are equal. 73. (B) All the other letters have straight lines only. 74. (B) The lines given will not form the closed figure. 75. (D) All the others have two straight lines and one curved on to form the figure. Here the arrangement is the other way round.
