Admission Requirements
The John Jay College Now Program is designed to meet the diverse academic needs and interests of high school students. Admission requirements vary depending on the program and type of course. It is important for students to have a good high school attendance record and be recommended to the program by their College Now Liaison. Requirements for One-Credit Course: To qualify for a one-credit course, students must have an English Regents test score between 55-74 or have a minimum high school average of 70. Requirements for Three-Credit Cohort Course: Students interested in taking college credit courses must demonstrate skills certification in reading, writing, and mathematics. Skills certification is demonstrated by having obtained any of the 3 English/Reading assessment scores listed below: English and Reading Skills Certification:

Requirements for Waiver Courses: Students interested in taking Waiver course for college credit courses must earn a grade of B or better in a Cohort offering. Seats are limited to 5 per semester.

In addition, all students taking a college credit course MUST submit a copy their: High School Transcript AND SAT Scores or PSAT Scores

Criminal Justice 101 (3-credits): Introductory survey of the American Criminal Justice System. Discussions focus on the police, Defense and Prosecuting Attorney, Courts, Institutional Corrections, Community Based Corrections, and the Juvenile Justice System. Psychology 101 (3-credits): General Psychology. A survey of human behavior, with emphasis on interpersonal process. Subjects covered include personality and personality assessment; behavior pathology and treatment; behavior aspects of motivation and emotion.
Africana Studies 125: Race and American Society: The African-American Experience. A survey course exploring the African
origins of African-Americans and examining slavery, the Abolitionist Movement, the Civil War, Reconstruction, Segregation, African American migration from the South, Urbanization, the Civil Rights Movement. Tuesdays AND Thursdays English 101 (3-credits): College Composition I. The fundamentals of composition, including sentence and paragraph development, diction, style. Examination of essay structure and development. Assigned themes introducing such rhetorical forms as description, comparison and contrast, cause and effect, argumentation. Psychology 101 (3-credits): General Psychology. A survey of human behavior, with emphasis on interpersonal process. Subjects covered include personality and personality assessment; behavior pathology and treatment; behavior aspects of motivation and emotion. Sociology 101 (3-credits): Introductory Sociology: Sociological Analysis. The study of modern society: social groups, social organization, process of interaction, society disorganization, and change. Such topics as deviant behavior, social control, ethnic and class relations.
