July 16, 1945 United States tests first fission nuclear weapon at Alamogordo, New Mexico in Trinity test August 6, 1945 US drops an atom bomb called Little Boy on Hiroshima Japan . The city of Hiroshima is destroyed killing hundreds of thousands of people. August 9, 1945 US drops an atom bomb called Fat Man on Nagasaki Japan .
