Goals /Objectives of the Workshop: 1. To empower participants with practical strategies. 2. To build, reaffirm and reassess knowledge and skills. 3. To encourage parent and professional networking and support. Approach: 1. Child and family oriented approach to ensure 25 hours of active engagement per week. 2. Integrated, collaborative team approach utilizing role release and role transfer

Presenters:
Liza Aziz Liza is the Chairperson of Action in Autism and the organisations founding member. She is a B. Paed. Graduate and has a BA Honours in Media and Communication. She is a parent of a child with autism and advocates and lobbies for the rights of people with autism spectrum disorders. Her specific focus has been on establishing and accessing educational resources for people with autism. Debbie Omar Debbie is a Speech-Language therapist with 22 years of experience. Her specific focus and passion has been working with children on the Autism Spectrum and in early learning intervention. She started her journey with autism at the very first educational facility in KZN at the Browns School. She runs her own private clinical practice. She works at the Sherwood Assessment Centre and has been at Action in Autism since its inception. Aneesa Moosa Aneesa qualified in 1988 from UKZN with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy. Her work experience and passion, has been in the fields of adult neurological rehabilitation and therapy with children with learning disabilities and developmental delays. She currently works at a mainstream school (Maris Stella) and at Action in Autism. She has worked as an external lecturer, clinical supervisor and examiner with the OT dept UKZN. She is currently registered for her masters in OT with her research focus on ASD and OT. Kirsten Miller Kirsten Miller has worked with children with autism for seventeen years, with a particular focus on early intervention. She has a BA(Hons) degree and worked as an educator at Action in Autism for three years from its inception in 2009. She has contributed articles about ASD to a variety of media publications, and is the author of Children on the Bridge, A Story of Autism in South Africa (2006). Avishana Sewrajan Avishana is a Speech-Language Therapist and Audiologist, with a special interest in working with children with severe communication disorders and/or feeding difficulties. She previously worked at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto for 9 years and spent 1 year abroad. Currently Avishana works on a part time basis at Interface KZN, a non-profit organization for people with communication difficulties. She has completed her Masters degree in Early Childhood Intervention as well as her basic and advanced Paediatric Neurodevelopment Training.
