If the full WISC-IV is administered, all 4 factors generate an Overall Ability score. In Halton, psychological staff administers Verbal Comprehension and Perceptual Reasoning to generate the General Ability Index (GAI). The decision to recommend further testing for students who are "close to" the Category 2 scores for OSLAT and NNAT rests with the School Resource Team. Special Education Placements Resource Support - A Regular Class with Consultative Support The student is placed in a regular class for the entire day, and the teacher receives specialized consultative services. Resource Support - A Regular Class with Resource Assistance The student is placed in a regular class for the entire day, and receives specialized instruction, individually or in a small group, from a qualified special education teacher. Resource Support - Secondary Gifted Placement A congregated grouping of students with an identification of Giftedness at designated secondary (high) schools together with more able but nonidentified learners in particular courses at the secondary school level. The Ontario curriculum in each of the clustered classes will be differentiated in breadth, depth and pace from the curriculum being offered in the regular class. Secondary students in grades 9 and 10 are timetabled together into the same class for the core academic subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Geography and History. Students in grades 11 and 12 are timetabled together into the same University level courses as timetables permit. Self-Contained Gifted (Elementary - Full Time) Students identified as Gifted and who are placed in an elementary selfcontained setting require program accommodations to meet their intellectual needs as well as the intellectual stimulation and challenge provided by congregation with peers of similar ability. Placement is available for students in grades five through eight. Although the students will not necessarily receive instruction in all subjects from a teacher with Special Educational Additional Qualifications (i.e. Music, Visual Arts) by virtue of the fact that the class stays together as a whole, throughout the timetable, it is deemed a "Full Time" self-contained placement.

ISSUE - Number of sites for Secondary Gifted Placement That Admin Council approve the reduction of 3 current sites for the delivery of Secondary Gifted Placement (clustering students). This would result in 3 sites for the East, 2 sites for the West and one in the North. When the number of students available for clustering is low, there is a concern that gender balance cannot be maintained. Gr. 9 Gr. 9 M F EAST T.A. Blakelock White Oaks 1 3 3 2 Gr. 10M 2 2 Gr. 1O F 2 1

WEST M. M. Robinson 2 3 0 0 In the East, most students have selected Abbey Park, Iroquois Ridge and OTHS over the last 2 years. White Oaks has been offering a pre-IB program during the last two years which interests some students identified with giftedness. In the West, most students have selected Nelson and Robert Bateman. The significant drop in Robert Bateman's Grade 9 numbers is concerning as Bateman is the designated school for Bateman, Burlington Central and Aldershot. If we assume that a critical mass for creating a clustered class is 6-7 students, and that two consecutive years with low enrolments would indicate that parents have not been attracted to the designated school, we could recommend the reduction of 3 current sites. This would result in 3 sites for the East and 2 sites for the West. The North program falls below this threshold but it is the only program available for secondary students in that region.
