City College
151 Wabasha Drive, Chicago, IL 60610 (312) 554-6779 Contact: Mechelle Haines, Director of Student Work-Study (714) 555-5555 October 1, 2013 CITY COLLEGE CUTS WORK-STUDY FUNDING TO KEEP STUDENTS ENROLLED Chicago, IL The City College administration has found a way to keep all students currently enrolled despite the 5% cut in their college funding. It was decided that rather than cutting 5% of the students from the program, the City College would keep all students currently enrolled but reduce all the student workers hours by 5%. The majority of students are acting positively to this strategic decision. Jenna Hepner, a student enrolled in the City College work-study program, commented, I agree with the way that the college has decided to handle this financial deficit. Id rather have a job and have less hours than no job at all. City College is an urban two-year institution with approximately 15,000 students. About 20% of the students (3,000 or so) work for the college part-time and receive federally supported work-study.
