Kristyn King FLIPPED CLASSROOM: Mitosis and Meiosis Science Students will watch Khan Academy video(s) the day/night before that pertains to particular lesson the next day. Students will draw and use diagrams on the stages and description of mitosis: interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. Also during this lesson, students will complete an internet activity from Jog the web identifying the different stages of mitosis. This lesson will wrap up with a brief review of mitosis as an introduction to meiosis. The stages of meiosis will not be emphasized.

1. MON: Students will view Khan Academys Phases of Mitosis https://www.khanacademy.org/science/biology/cell-division/v/phasesof-mitosis at home or before/after school prior to the actual lesson in class. (flipped classroom) Students will record stages of mitosis on individual index cards while watching the demonstration. One side of the index card should contain an illustration and the other a description. One stage of mitosis on each card. 2. Teacher will check to be sure students filled out the index cards properly. Students will created the Pocketbook noting taking strategy from Scholastic, which will hold the index card notes that students completed Monday. Students will then complete the Cell Cycle Labeling page to reinforce the cycle of a cell through mitosis. After class/at home students will view a YouTube video on mitosis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6hn3sA0ip0. Students will check over their index cards from the night before and ensure that all the information is correct and add anything that is needed. Students will access the link to the main page of the activity by visiting corkboard.me. The websites can be accessed through a borrowed Jog the Web activity
