Lauryn Hill: Dangerous Subversive? Suitable Case For Treatment?

After being jailed for failing to pay a tax bill, the Grammy award winning singer Lauren Hill was told to undergo counselling because she repeated a conspiracy theory that music industry strangles real talent. WTF? Punished for having an opinion? And since when was the music industry, which was always exploitative, manipulative and on the fringe of organised crime protected by the courts from criticism. Yesterday Ms Hill was sentenced to 3 months in jail followed by three months house arrest after failing to pay a tax bill because she had withdrawn from society following threats to her family. In June last year she posted a rant on her Tumblr account complaining of how the music industry is manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex.

Other recording artists have said similar things and made it clear that anyone who doesnt conform to the strict demands of the music industry (or , as former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger recently remarked, sell their soul to Satan,) tends to find success hard to maintain in an industry that punishes individuals who dare to speak their mind. A few weeks back I reported in The Daily Stirrer on some very disturbing things I had heard about the corruption of the music industry. In performances and interviews over the last few years, Lauren Hill has attempted to articulate the dangers of the entertainment business and warn young people about how pop culture cannibalism and the deliberate reductionism of art and music is damaging a whole generation and turning them into passive, unthinking consumers, swallowing their prescription drugs like the programmed lower castes in Aldous Huxley's novel Brave New World. Lauren Hill says this mentality is destroying inspiration and true creativity in the name of profit it, I say it is destroying intelligence, independence of mind and the ability to discriminate in the whole population apart from a small, self selected elite.. The Judges order that Hill undergo what amounts to brainwashing and reeducation simply for publicly proclaiming the fact that the music industry is designed to strangle true talent while promoting amoral, vacuous, mindless, turgid drivel, is part of the increasing trend towards labelling those who diverge from the officiasl line and rely on their own common sense and experience to inform their actions as a mental illness if it goes against the establishment grain in any way. For example I have said in the past there are two kinds of music I can't stand, Opera and Gospel, both to my uneducated ear are caterwauling. I was not branded a racist for disliking Opera. being kidnapped and taken to psychiatric wards in some countries, how long before criticism of the state is officially recognized as a mental disorder? Remembering that in Hitler's Third Reich, Stalin's Soviet Union and Mao's People's Republic Of China, dissidents were diagnosed as insane before being sent to labour camps or simply disappearing we are entitled to ask what is going on when free speech and the freedom to question authority are one of the founding principles of liberal democracy. Those considered hostile to authority have already been tagged as sufferers of oppositional defiant disorder under the the DSM-IV-TR Manual. The definition of this mental illness is, a recurrent pattern of negativistic, defiant, disobedient. and hostile behavior toward authority figures that persists for at least 6 months. In other words to consistently question authority is a crime. The attempt to marginalise certain opinions as dangerous mental disorders has also entered the political realm. In 2009, Psychology Today wrote a hit piece on internet demagogue Alex Jones insinuating that anyone who believes in a secret cabal ruling the world, which is a perfectly accurate description of the Bilderberg Group, has a mental disorder. It was also reported recently (and even mentioned in mainstream news in the UK) that people in the US state of Florida are being encouraged to report their neighbours to authorities for making comments critical of the government, thus marking for home visits by police and mental health professionals and caseworkers. Lauren Hills case reminds us that the establishment not only seeks to ridicule, ostracize and criminalize those who utter conspiracy theories, which has become a pejorative term for any questioning of authority. So we see the elites are moving towards having any dissent against the system classified as a form of mental illness in order to grease the skids for legally imposed treatment including reeducation and even psychoactive drug therapy. Again, the Third Reich, The Soviet Union and Communist China provide a precedent. Over the past few months a paedophilia scandal has rumbled on in the UK media which many celebrities and media figures being arrested following allegations of sexual assaults that took place decades ago. Apart from the obvious concern that with the alleged offences having been so far in the past and these people being named publicly and subjected to trial by media there is little chance of their being given a fair hearing. Another point that strikes me is the vast majority of these people are either openly supporters of the conservative party or non politically aligned outspoken critics of the broad left, politically correct attitudes and the authoritarianism of public officials. Are there no allegation against people of the left you might well ask. Historically there have been plenty, but nobody has read or heard of them from mainstream media. It is easy for people within the conspiracy to dismiss anything posted by bloggers as a conspiracy theory, but take a look at this list compiled by Chris Spivey and ask yourself why none of the prominent figures he names have taken him to court, not to sue for damages, most people were wealthy by inheritance before they were in politics and have further enriched themselves by dipping their greedy snouts into the Cornucopean trough of taxpayers money, but to protect their good name. Are they afraid perhaps of what might emerge in a court case. Another thing that I notice in an increasingly insane world is how many people diagnosed by medical professionals as mentally ill are being recorded as having some very dodgy sounding problems. WTF are oppositional defiant disorder, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, anxiety disorder, the thing all those disorders

share in common is an anti authority attitude. How many of those diagnosed are actually political dissidents and how many are simply displaying a healthy scepticism about propaganda and an individualistic willingness to question authority. And how many of those professionals who have diagnosed them are left wing, green or human rights activists or fans of big government? Anti-authoritarians question whether an authority is a legitimate one before accepting that authority and even after recognising the authority they continue to question whether commands issued are (a) wise, (b) morally justified. Evaluating the legitimacy of authorities includes assessing whether or not the people representing authority actually understand what they are tasked with doing, are honest, and care about those people who are under their authority. And when anti-authoritarians assess an authority to be illegitimate, they challenge and resist that authority, sometimes aggressively and sometimes passively, sometimes correctly and sometimes not. Some people lament how few anti-authoritarians there appear to be in the developed nations now. One reason could be that many natural anti-authoritarians are now psychopathologized, marginalized and given a chemical lobotomy before they reach awareness of societys most oppressive authorities.
