CURRENT SITUATION

I work in Acute Inpatient Mental Health Services and my current job role has evolved as a result of changes within the structures of the Acute Mental Health Business Unit, this has been instrumental in helping me to realise and identify not only where my career aspirations lie but also to critically examine my current position. My Job Description continues to band 7 Ward Manager yet my current role has been one of devolved responsibility as Operational Manager of the inpatient wards influencing, managing at a senior level and with responsibility to deliver strategic goals, yet without the authority to deliver that. My development through this has given invaluable insight into the need to take control of future personal developments and to seize opportunities. I am keen to progress into the Strategic Arena yet very recent changes to my Managerial Structure has placed real questions over my current role, the future requirements and how my career can or will progress, or indeed if my role will continue to exist in the near future. To be able to progress in my chosen career pathway there are specific areas I need to develop in my professional attributes, skills, knowledge and crucially, experience. I also need to look at my personal skills and attributes and identify areas that I need to develop but also be conscious to maintain the integrity of who I am as a person My desire is to develop my personal skills of resilience, negotiation, political awareness and to develop the skills needed to fully equip myself for the future. Whatever that may bring.

WHY CHANGE IS DESIRABLE

HOW THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT

I will be in control of my career, my chosen pathways and how that is achieved. I need to shape rather than be shaped I feel that I am at a point in my life, through learning and educational opportunities, to finally know who I am, where I want to be but also, importantly how to be in that place.

Request manager to extend invite to relevant meetings Arrange introductory meetings with relevant professionals OUTCOMES TO BE ACHIEVED To be equipped with greater knowledge and understanding of the strategic direction of the organisation. Understand and share information on how the strategy will impact the service area To achieve recognition as part of the management team involved in strategic business planning To successfully extend networks Raise profile and reputation OPPORTUNITIES Coaching Opportunities from the Deputy Director of Operations Attendance at Strategic meetings Involvement in focus groups to shape service Networking across SWYPFT RESOURCES REQUIRED Commitment from the Organisation and buy in from Manager Calendar Management Information Acceptance at wider SWYPFT level REVIEW DATE 30th April 2013
