It has been a great pleasure for me to be involved in training and clinical supervision for the Play Therapy Australia Training Program over the past 4 years. My long time involvement around the world with Play Therapy in training institutes, university settings, and professional associations allows me to be able to accurately assess the current state of Play Therapy education and training internationally. I can with confidence affirm that Play Therapy Australia's training and supervision is state of the art, and in the case of Child-Centered Play Therapy training, I believe that Play Therapy Australia is among the top five training programs in the world. The course explores the humanistic Play Therapy and Child Therapy work of Dr Garry Landreth, Dr Louise Guerney, Dr William Nordling, Dr Clark Moustakas, Dr Virginia Axline and Jewel Janan. It also incorporates aspects from the field of Pre and Perinatal Psychology, the Body Centered Therapies and Creative Arts Therapies. Who Can Apply to Join the Play Therapy Training Program? Play Therapy Training with Play Therapy Australia The Play Therapy Training Program includes theoretical and experiential learning, case material, Play Therapy demonstrations and skills based training, role plays, reflective processes and DVD material from leaders in the field of Play Therapy, Child Therapy and Pre and Perinatal Psychology. Creative arts and other experiential processes are integrated into the course to facilitate self reflection and the integration of theory with practice. The online distance learning material will include recorded training sessions with some of the Australian and international leaders in Child Centered Play Therapy. The training requires from participants, a genuine openness to this humanistic way of working with children. Course participants need to be self reflective and committed to their own personal development, with participation and self reflection being an integral part of the Play Therapy training and professional development process.

What is the Play Therapy Orientation of the Training Program? Child Centered Play Therapy is a humanistic Play Therapy approach. It offers a deeply respectful, heartful and effective form of counselling and psychotherapy for children from 2-10 years. In Child Centered Play Therapy, the therapist enters the world of the child, following the childs lead, developing a safe place and a relationship of trust. The child can express feelings, thoughts, experiences and behaviours through play, as the childs natural language. Often it is difficult for children to talk about how they feel and how things have affected them. Child Centered Play Therapy offers a pathway for early counselling and psychotherapeutic intervention for children and families. It encourages the unique development and emotional /psychosocial growth of children, fostering the childs innate potential for inner growth and healing. Play Therapy can be used with a wide range of childrens difficulties including trauma, loss and grief, social adjustment issues, adjustment to changes in family situations, hospitalisation and illness, pre birth and birth trauma, bonding and attachment issues, ADHD, selective mutism, separation anxiety, fears and anxieties, near death experiences, reactive attachment disorder, oppositional and challenging behaviours, enuresis and encopresis, autism spectrum disorder and school difficulties. For evidence based research on the effectiveness of Child Centered Play Therapy, the following book is now available: Child-Centered Play Therapy Research: The Evidence Base for Effective Practice by Jennifer N. Baggerly (Author, Editor), Dee C. Ray (Author, Editor), Sue C. Bratton (Author, Editor). This book is available from www.amazon.com and many other online booksellers. Training Venue The training venue is a lovely, nurturing venue called A Place to Just Be in East Fremantle, Western Australia. Please go to: www.aplacetojustbe.com.au A Place to Just Be is close to Fremantle, a beautiful coastal city and popular tourist destination, 30 minutes from Perth, the capital city of Western Australia.
