Course Description This course gives exposure to some approaches and techniques concerning the teaching and learning of the four basic skills, reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar to the primary school students. This course gives ideas about how these skills are integrated in English lessons. Students are taught how to write lesson plans integrating these four skills. Micro-teaching sessions at the end of the course provide students with the practice and exposure to teach English confidently in the future.

Course Outcomes At the end of the course, students should be able to: 1. Identify methods, approaches and techniques in teaching primary school students in the ESL context. (C3)

2. Devise lesson plans and language activities for all the language skills in English. (P2) 3. Identify important criteria in selecting and evaluating materials for all levels of primary school students. (A3) 4. Practice and demonstrates good ethics during macro-teaching sessions. Grading Policies The grading scale as explained in the course catalog will be used: 80-100% = A 75-79% = A70-74% =B+ Quizzes 65-69% = B 60-64% = B50-54% = C

55-59% = C+ Students will demonstrate their knowledge 15% X 2 = 30% in two quizzes Lesson Plan Students will construct classroom activities 20% X 1 = 20% Construction in the form of a lesson plan based on the theories learnt and specifications of the Malaysian ESL Syllabus Document Macro-teaching Students will present a double period 30% X 1 = 30% Engish lesson (integrating more than one skill) on the lesson plan prepared in Lesson Plan Construction
