How can I use the skill explained Display a sentence with an answer hidden under a box
below? that can be erased to reveal the answer.
What should I know first? You will need to open ActivStudio software on your
laptop.
HOW TO BEGIN
1. Open a new Flipchart. Click on the Text Tool icon in the toolbox (see illustration on next page).
This will enable you to type text.
2. Click on the Background of your Flipchart page. A Text Edit toolbox and a cursor will appear.
3. Type your sentence or problem. To edit the text you are creating, select the gray ALL button in
the Text Edit toolbox. The entire text will be highlighted. From this point, you can change the
font style, color, size, etc.
4. To make the text appear in a color‐filled text box, check inside the box next to Background in the
Text Edit toolbox, and select a color from the drop‐down palette next to it.
5. The background of your text box is now the color you selected.
TO CREATE A COVER FOR THE ANSWER:
6. Select the Marquee Tool (arrow cursor) from the main toolbox.
7. Open the Resource Library (stack of books). From the Resource Library, select Shared Shapes
from the thumbnails.
8. Select a rectangle, and drag it to the open Flipchart page. You can use the “handles” on the
rectangle to size it to cover your text box. If the handles disappear, click on the rectangle once to
make them appear.
9. Move the rectangle by placing your cursor over it and dragging it over your answer.
10. If you want to change the color of the rectangle, click on it once so the handles appear, then
click on your color choice on the palette of the main tool box.
11. To make the new rectangle “erasable”, you must move it from the middle layer (where it was
created) to the top layer.
12. To do this, click on the button on the barrel of your ActivPen while you hover it over the
rectangle (if at your ActivBoard) or right‐click your mouse (if creating from your computer
keyboard) over it. A pop‐up menu will appear.
13. Select EDIT – LAYER – TOP from the menu.
14. When you are ready to erase the rectangle, select the Eraser Tool from the main tool box and
erase. The rectangle covering your answer will become “invisible”. It does not disappear. If you
click on the erased area, you can drag it to the trash can and your answer will magically be
covered by the rectangle again.
