Alternative to HRT
The publications by Natural Health International in the International Journal of
Biomedical Science of a post- and peri-menopause double-blind, placebo crossover
clinical trial confirms Femmenessence™ (Maca-GO®) as a safe, effective and natural
alternative to hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
However, Maca-GO® (Femmenessence™) not only contains higher levels of these specific actives which have been
concentrated 4 or 10 times but higher levels of the full spectrum of actives found in maca. This specific phenotype
combination along with increased concentration of the entire spectrum of actives, optimized bioavailability with no
chemicals or excipients used in the process - just the pure powder - in a vegetarian capsule and all in USDA and EU
Organic, Kosher, Halal & GMP certified facilities results, in the highest quality, purest maca-based product currently
available on the market.
The efficacy of Femmenessence™ was confirmed in a double blind, placebo crossover clinical trial on peri- and post-
menopausal women, which demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in menopausal symptoms in 84% of
women. Independent reports by medical practitioners have indicated that over half of the remaining 16% could derive
improvements by adjusting the dose either up or down from the standard 2 capsules in the morning and evening.
Femmenessence™ works primarily as an adaptogen. Through its action on the hypothalamus, pituitary adrenal axis it
stimulates the body to secrete the level of hormones that are appropriate for the woman’s physiological stage of life
and are necessary for optimal health. In other words, it induces each individual woman’s body to secrete the
appropriate balance of hormones for them.
In addition, with the attainment of optimal hormone balance, it has been shown that Femmenessence™ delivers a
number of concurrent health benefits, such as significant reductions in body weight, lower levels of both blood
Triglycerides and Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) with simultaneous increased levels of High Density Lipoproteins
(HDL) - beneficial to cardio-vascular health. Increases in gastro intestinal absorption were seen through increases in
serum calcium and iron levels. Increases in bone density were also seen in post-menopausal women.
Over 160 post-menopausal women participated in the clinical trials. They demonstrated a statistically significant
increase in E2 (P<0.001) with a statistically significant reduction in FSH levels (P<0.05). Levels of Progesterone also
increased (P>0.05). Femmenessence™ significantly alleviated symptoms (P<0.001) of menopausal discomfort such as
hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and mood swings as indicated by reductions within two months from 27 to 9
in the Kupperman’s Menopausal Index (KMI). This KMI percentage reduction in menopausal symptoms, specifically hot
flashes and mood swings, after only two months is market leading for an herbal product. This, combined with the
statistically significantly effect hormone and lipid levels, could finally offer women and doctors a natural alternative to
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or Hormone Therapy (HT).
Furthermore Natural Health International’s pharmacological study showed that when Femmenessence™ was given to
mice and rats at levels of 7.5g and up to 15g/kg body weight, there were no toxic effects determined at the range of
doses used. These studies further showed increases in estrogen levels, a distinctive (P<0.05) antidepressant-like and
sedative effect on surgically-induced “menopausal” (ovariectomized) rats, while there was no anxiolytic activity nor
disturbance of cognitive function observed in both test (ovariectomized) and control (sexually-active, non-
ovariectomized) animals.
