STANDARDS: 3.5 Earth Sciences: C. Know basic weather elements - identify cloud types. THEME: Science LESSON TOPIC: Clouds/ Water Cycle OBJECTIVES: Language:
Student will be able to: accurately describe key characteristics of each cloud after he paints the 4 types of clouds with puff paint, write another word on the Smart Board that describes the 4 types of clouds, identify key characteristics of each cloud type through recalling from the powerpoint presentation.

Content:
Student will learn about the four different cloud types: cumulonimbus cloud, cirrus cloud, cumulus cloud, stratus cloud.

LEARNING STRATEGIES: Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning will be targeted in this
lesson.

KEY VOCABULARY: cumulonimbus cloud, cirrus cloud, cumulus cloud, stratus cloud MATERIALS: powerpoint of cloud pictures and descriptions, cloud cut outs, definition cut outs,
puff paint (glue/shaving cream), paper, markers

MOTIVATION:
(Building background) Student will be asked if he has ever seen clouds before. Teachers will show the student pictures of differnet clouds and ask him if he knows that they all have different names. Pictures will be shown of the real clouds (cumulonimbus cloud, cirrus cloud, cumulus cloud, stratus cloud)

PRESENTATION:
(Language and content objectives, comprehensible input, strategies, interaction, feedback) Teacher will show the difference of clouds as a whole by taping up pictures of the clouds with legs on them to show the difference in height and also the color of the clouds. This will be hanging up with the vocabulary words on the board for the entire lesson for the student.

PRACTICE AND APPLICATION: (Meaningful activities, interaction, strategies, practice and application, feedback)

Student will be given construction paper and puff paint to create his own clouds (cumulonimbus cloud, cirrus cloud, cumulus cloud, stratus cloud) on the correct sheets.

REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT: (Review objectives and vocabulary, assess learning)


To review and assess the student, an oral review will take place. The student will have to show us his completed art work with the puff paint and then describe the differences between the clouds with a few words.

EXTENSION:
We can make a cloud chart throughout the week to observe which types of clouds are out every day for the next week.
