Welcome...

... to the inaugural Kerry Festival of Pride

We are making a splash, it will get a little bigger each year, pretty soon Kerry will be soaked in Pride. We can see you looking forward to this celebration of diversity every year.

Why?
Lets just say it, Kerry is a great place to live, work and play. We are here to celebrate the diversity of people and culture our world renowned county has to offer. We are part of this, so we are celebrating our contribution. What better way to say a thank you to our beautiful county and its people by throwing a festival in which everyone can come out and be themselves. As a lot of you will already know Kerry County Council passed a motion in favour of gay marriage earlier this year. What perfect timing! The people of Kerry are ready to embrace the LGBT community. To celebrate with them. Kerry Festival of Pride is a celebration of love. Be it Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual and yes, even Straight. Love is love. It cannot be defined by straight lines or black and white rules and regulations. Love is fluid. Its Technicolor. Come to the Kerry Festival of Pride and celebrate your own unique love. With Pride from everyone helping to make Kerry's 1st festival of pride a success. We are looking forward to welcoming you at one or more of our many events during the 20th - 26th May.

in partnership with GAZE (Dublin International LGBT Film Festival) The Perfect Family is the story of Eileen Cleary, a devout wife and mother who has just been nominated for Catholic Woman of the Year. She and her family must undergo an inspection by the local bishop, a test which she expects to pass with flying colours until her daughter breaks the news to her that she is gay, engaged and pregnant. A dramedy with laughs, a heart and a Hollywood cast including Emily Deschanel (Bones), Jason Ritter (Parenthood) and the legendary Kathleen Turner, The Perfect Family is a film about a mother's love and the lengths to which she'll go to understand herself and her family. Film: Wish Me Away

in partnership with GAZE (Dublin International LGBT Film Festival) Many know the much-publicised story of Chely Wright, the American country music star who came out publicly in 2010. Now, this documentary takes you behind the scenes in the months, weeks, days and even the final minutes before Chely comes out and changes her life and career forever. We see Chely talking to her therapist, reminiscing with her sister about their troubled childhood, and confessing her fears and hopes in some really moving and heartfelt personal diary entries. An interesting essay on the sexual politics of country music and the American heartland, this is also a rare insight into one woman's mind as she contemplates coming out, battling her demons, her own homophobic thoughts and her doubts about her future. Country music is not everyone's cup of tea but Wish Me Away is a brilliant tale of one brave woman's coming out journey that resonates with all of us who have followed a similar path. Admission: 5 Time: 9.30pm Venue: St. Johns Theatre, The Square, Listowel, Co. Kerry USA 2011 93 mins Director: Bobbie Birleffi, Beverly Kopf
