Activity (whole class): Students will complete Place Value and Subtraction assessment online through the Pearson Web site. Center 1 (small group/pairs): Students will solve Factors and Multiples problems Levels 2 & 3 from Discovering Math: Primary: Number Theory. Center 2 (independent/pairs): Students will complete the daily segment from xtramth.org computational fluency with arithmetic operations, within the structure of a self-paced mode. Once th they have completed their daily practice, students will work with 5 Grade curriculum through the Web based ST Math program: Patterns and Relationships, Using Parentheses, Multi-Digit Multiplication, Multi-Digit Division, Exponents, Volume, Area, Shapes & Properties, Decimal Place Value, Comparing with Decimals, Rounding Decimals, Addition/Subtraction with Decimals, Multiplying with Decimals, Dividing with Decimal, Fraction and Decimal Concepts, Using Data and Graphs, Fraction Addition and Subtraction, Integers, Linear Functions, The Coordinate Plane, Angles, Temperature and Capacity. Center 3 (independent/pairs): Students will work on individually assigned content and with a selfth paced 5 grade Common Core Standards based learning path on ScootPad. The Common Core Standards covered by the current self-paced units are: Unit 1 (self-paced) 5.MD.1 Elapsed time in minutes 5.NBT.5 Multiply 2-digit by 2-digit, factors, missing steps 5.OA.3 - Input/output tables, addition rules Unit 2 (self-paced) 5.NBT.1 Convert between pace values 5.NBT.2 Multiply whole numbers by 10, 100, 1000 5.NBT.5 - Multiply 2-digit y 2-digit factors 5.NF.2 - Add fractions, word problems 5.OA.2 - Write simple expressions Unit 3 (self-paced) 5.NBT.1 Convert between place values decimals 5.NBT.2 - Divide whole numbers by 10, 100, 1000 5.NBT.5 Multiply 3-digit by 2-digit factors 5.NF.1 Subtract fractions with unlike denominators 5.OA.2 Write simple expressions from word problems

Center 4 (independent): Students will work with different 5 grade iPad math apps to develop computational fluency and problem solving skills.

Daily Objective: Content Objectives: I will understand the place value structure of the base ten number system and be able to represent and compare whole numbers and decimals. Language Objectives: I will understand the place value structure of the base ten number system and be able to represent and compare whole numbers and decimals through illustrations and verbal (oral and written) explanations. Language Function: Give an explanation

Concept and Skill Development and Application: Describe and apply basic number theory concepts (recognize and use prime and composite numbers, factors, multiples, numbers, and divisibility) Demonstrate the ability to convert basic fractions to percents and decimals, to the nearest hundredth. Identify odd and even numbers Explain the meaning of place value Use models to identify, order and compare numbers

Guided/Independent/Group Practice: Whole Group, Small Group, Pairs, and Independent

Homework Assignments: multiplication with decimals and division with decimals.

Long-Term Memory Review: Students will define and describe denominators, numerators, factors, multiples, product, divisor, dividend, and quotient.

Closure: Students will understand simplest form and equivalent fractions.

Materials: Educational Materials from Discovery Education: Discovering Math: Arithmetic ST Math Web site ScootPad Web site Xtramath Web site Peatrson Web site

Questions: Vocabulary: composite number, decimal, even number, factor, fraction, mixed number, multiple, odd number, percent, place value, prime number, whole number Do students understand the difference between an odd and even number? Do students understand the meaning of place value? Can students use models to identify, order, and compare numbers? Can students convert fractions to decimals and/or percents?

CCSD regulation 6122 outlines minimum expectations for lesson plans including the lesson objective, procedures, materials, grouping, and assessment. Please check with your site administration for lesson planning expectations specific to your school site.

Related Standards/Course Objectives: SMP #6 - Attend to precision. SMP #7 - Look for and make use of structure. 5.NBT.1 - Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left. 5.NBT.2 - Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. Use whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10. NV 1.5.1 - Identify and use place value positions of whole numbers and decimals to hundredths. NV 1.5.2.c - Identify, model, and compare improper fractions and mixed numbers.
