nyone who has seen a loved one off to a new adventure knows how difficult it is to rejoice, even when we are reasonably optimistic about their future. So, we can imagine how difficult it must have been for the disciples to rejoice in Jesus announced departure. Todays Gospel is part of Jesus Last Supper discourse, recorded only by John. Jesus announces shocking news. He must go to the Father, and they should rejoice in this. To help them through this, Jesus gives his disciples his give of peace and promises an Advocate. From our privileged position in history, we can see that all that Jesus promises comes to pass. The Church has grown and still exists on this earth because of the abiding Spirit. But living by the Spirit and entering into the peace of Christ is no small task. Jesus doesnt promise the apostles a rose garden. He is realistic about the costs of discipleship. And, mercifully, he is also clear about its rewards.

School News
This Week At St. Francis Borgia School: There will be a Parents' Association meeting on Monday, May 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the Resource Room. The Chess Club will meet after school on Tuesday, May 7. WHAT TEACHERS MAKE The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?" He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." To stress his point he said to another guest, "You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?" Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make? She paused for a second, then began..."Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an iPod, Game Cube or movie rental. You want to know what I make?" She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table. I make kids wonder. I make them question. I make them critique. I make them apologize and mean it. I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions. I teach them to write and then I make them write. I make them read, read, read. I make them show all their work in math. I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know in English while preserving their unique cultural identity. I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe. I make my students stand to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, because we live in the United States of America. Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life. Bonnie paused one last time and then continued. "Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant.....You want to know what I make? I MAKE A DIFFERENCE. What do you make?" Tuesday, May 7, is National Teacher Day. Please be sure to thank a teacher today! There is much truth in this statement: "Teachers make every other profession." The St. Francis Borgia Mini Bombers will meet Wednesday, May 8, in the gym from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is a FREE Mom and Tots group. Activities include music and motion, story time, free play, sensory play and arts and crafts. This FREE Mom and Tots program is for toddlers and children under 4 years of age. Its a chance for mother and child to spend some quality time doing fun activities together. Parent participation with your child is required. Please enter through the gym doors. Thursday, May 9, is Pizza Lunch Day! Yay! There will be an all-school Mass in church at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10. The seventh grade will be planning this liturgy. All are welcome to attend. The annual Pre-Kindergarten Show in honor of mothers will be held on Friday, May 10, at 10:00am in Mayall Hall.

Respect Life
Baby Bottle Project Once again, on Mothers Day, well invite our parishioners to participate in a fundraiser to help The Womens Center. In the Baby Bottle Project, the Womens Center is asking you to take a baby bottle, bring it home, drop in your spare change or larger donation and return the bottles to the church or to the rectory by Sunday, June 9th (The week before Fathers Day). The Womens Center counsels women in a crisis pregnancy with kindness, respect and compassion. Approximately 5000 women contact the Center annually as they make decisions about the life of their child. The Center assists women materially and spiritually through daily prayers.
