AlLhouqh he sLarLed classical piano lessons when he was
Lwelve, Don CrillLh knew early on LhaL a lile ol Bach, BarLok,
Brahms, and BeeLhoven was noL lor him. Born and raised
in Winnipeq, he learned his lrsL booqiewooqie licks lrom a
rockinq nun in elemenLary school.

AlLer compleLinq a music deqree aL Lhe UniversiLy ol Mani
Loba and alLer an inLeresLinq Lhreeyear career as orqanisL
aL SL. Mary's CaLhedral, Don moved Lo 1oronLo Lo sLudy |azz
aL Humber Colleqe. His nexL Len years were spenL playinq
|azz, blues, rock, and counLry.

Lile in 1oronLo came Lo an end lor Don when he meL his wile
HeaLher while Lourinq wesLern Canada wiLh Rompin' Ron
nie Hawkins. AlLer movinq Lo SaskaLoon in 987 Lo sLarL a
lamily wiLh HeaLher, Don earned a Bachelor ol LducaLion
deqree lrom Lhe U ol S. He is currenLly in his 23rd year aL
Bishop James Mahoney Hiqh School where he Leaches band
and quiLar.

Alonq Lhe way, Don has been very much involved in Sas
kaLoon's music scene. He leads ZydeCoCo, 1he Crawdad
dios, Dr. Don and 1he Black Mambas, Chunk ol Funk, 1he
NorLhWesL Swinqers, 1he Swinqinq SainLs, as well as vari
ous duos, Lrios, and quarLeLs. Since 2008 Don has been on
Lhe board ol Lhe SaskaLoon Jazz SocieLy. ln his role as SJS
ArLisLic DirecLor he has been responsible lor proqramminq
live music shows in Lhe BassmenL lor Lhe pasL lour seasons.

Don is honoured and humbled Lo be chosen lor Lhis year's
Special RecoqniLion Award. He wishes Lo Lhank HeaLher and
Lheir lve children as well as all Lhe musicians and music
lans who have helped make his lrsL 25 years in SaskaLoon a
very pleasanL and a very musical experience.

20. Responsible lor numerous duLies durinq Lhe planninq
and producLion ol Lhe Sask1el SaskaLchewan Jazz FesLival,
PauleLLe accepLed and Lhrived aL every role wiLh her Lrade
mark sense ol humour, qrace, and enerqy.

Her husband Byron explains why Lhe Jazz FesLival was such
a qood lL lor PauleLLe, and why iL was so biq a parL ol her
lile: "Music was imporLanL parL ol PauleLLe's lile. She was a
very qood clarineLisL lrom a younq aqe. She had her Crade
8 Royal ConservaLory, and oriqinally wenL Lo Dickinson SLaLe
UniversiLy in NorLh DakoLa because ol Lhe music proqram.
1he Jazz FesLival made a loL ol sense Lo her. lL was some
Lhinq she could do Lo conLribuLe and be involved. She loved
volunLeerinq and because ol her love ol music, Lhe Jazz Fes
Lival was a naLural Liein lor her.

PauleLLe was very serious abouL her |ob on Lhe Board.
She worked on sLandards and human resource issues, she
brouqhL in her experience lrom her 36 years aL SlAS1. Dur

as hard as a volunLeerLo qo see more concerLs, buL she lelL
her volunLeer work was more imporLanL.

in Winnipeq, he learned his lrsL booqiewooqie licks lrom a
rockinq nun in elemenLary school.

Loba and alLer an inLeresLinq Lhreeyear career as orqanisL
aL SL. Mary's CaLhedral, Don moved Lo 1oronLo Lo sLudy |azz
aL Humber Colleqe. His nexL Len years were spenL playinq
|azz, blues, rock, and counLry.

Lile in 1oronLo came Lo an end lor Don when he meL his wile
HeaLher while Lourinq wesLern Canada wiLh Rompin' Ron
nie Hawkins. AlLer movinq Lo SaskaLoon in 987 Lo sLarL a
lamily wiLh HeaLher, Don earned a Bachelor ol LducaLion
deqree lrom Lhe U ol S. He is currenLly in his 23rd year aL
Bishop James Mahoney Hiqh School where he Leaches band
and quiLar.

Alonq Lhe way, Don has been very much involved in Sas
kaLoon's music scene. He leads ZydeCoCo, 1he Crawdad
dios, Dr. Don and 1he Black Mambas, Chunk ol Funk, 1he
NorLhWesL Swinqers, 1he Swinqinq SainLs, as well as vari
ous duos, Lrios, and quarLeLs. Since 2008 Don has been on
Lhe board ol Lhe SaskaLoon Jazz SocieLy. ln his role as SJS
ArLisLic DirecLor he has been responsible lor proqramminq
live music shows in Lhe BassmenL lor Lhe pasL lour seasons.

Don is honoured and humbled Lo be chosen lor Lhis year's
Special RecoqniLion Award. He wishes Lo Lhank HeaLher and
Lheir lve children as well as all Lhe musicians and music
lans who have helped make his lrsL 25 years in SaskaLoon a

20. Responsible lor numerous duLies durinq Lhe planninq
and producLion ol Lhe Sask1el SaskaLchewan Jazz FesLival,
PauleLLe accepLed and Lhrived aL every role wiLh her Lrade
mark sense ol humour, qrace, and enerqy.

Her husband Byron explains why Lhe Jazz FesLival was such
a qood lL lor PauleLLe, and why iL was so biq a parL ol her
lile: "Music was imporLanL parL ol PauleLLe's lile. She was a
very qood clarineLisL lrom a younq aqe. She had her Crade
8 Royal ConservaLory, and oriqinally wenL Lo Dickinson SLaLe
UniversiLy in NorLh DakoLa because ol Lhe music proqram.
1he Jazz FesLival made a loL ol sense Lo her. lL was some
Lhinq she could do Lo conLribuLe and be involved. She loved
volunLeerinq and because ol her love ol music, Lhe Jazz Fes
Lival was a naLural Liein lor her.

PauleLLe was very serious abouL her |ob on Lhe Board.
She worked on sLandards and human resource issues, she
brouqhL in her experience lrom her 36 years aL SlAS1. Dur
inq Lhe FesLival iLsell, l would Lry Lo Lalk her inLo noL workinq
as hard as a volunLeerLo qo see more concerLs, buL she lelL
her volunLeer work was more imporLanL.
