Gently used children's books needed for a school project!

One of the classes in our school has received a Youth Service America/State Farm Insurance grant to help set up a small lending library in the
tutoring room at the East Metro Women's Council, an organization in our community that supports families and children in need. Many
children from EMWC attend our school. Our class has decided to participate in this project by donating books for children of all ages
(especially appropriate for K - 5). These books will be used throughout the school year as well as over the summer. Please help us by
donating new or gently used books in good condition. We will collect books until the 15th of April. Thank you for helping us.
Ms. Wagoner’s Weekly Newsletter
April 6 – April 10, 2009
What have we been up to?
In math, we continued our unit on
geometry. This week we talked about similar and
congruent polygons. Students also had practice
calculating the areas and perimeters of different
polygons, by designing bumper car floor plans.
In reading, we started a new theme, One
Land, Many Trails. We read A Boy Called Slow,
which was about a famous leader of the Lakota
Sioux people. We also covered prefixes, suffixes,
analogies, and pronouns during grammar this
week.
We also started reading groups this week.
Students are reading one of four different books.
They have to complete a selection of reading
each day, along with a comprehension After a wonderful music performance! Ethnic Drumming Group
worksheet. They are given 25 minutes in class, and
what they do not finish is homework (minutes can
be used on their Reading Log). If students are on
task, they should not have to bring it home. It is
HOMEWORK UPDATE
