e are nearing the end of another successful academic year for some courses in T. John Group of Institutions. This is that time of the year when final semester students are getting ready to face their final exams and step into the big world outside. My prayers and best wishes are with you and wish all of you taste success and glory. Looking back, this year we have achieved more and progressed ahead as compared to last year whether in academics or extra-curricular activities and this is immensely heartening. I extend my greetings to the entire family of TJGI for having put their best efforts forward with dedication and we look ahead to continue in the same vein creating new frontiers in the field of educational excellence.

This year saw many more activities in the form of national and state conferences and seminars, presentations, industrial visits and placements have also begun on a war footing. I wish all the even semester students score high marks in their forthcoming exams and a successful life ahead wherein they enter into the strata of real life challenges. The 2nd National Conference RATE 2013 (Recent Advances in Technology and Engineering) was organized by TJIT from March 27-28, 2013. It was aimed at bringing together researchers and experts across Dr. Thomas P. John & Dr. Shreekrishna emerging fields of science and Kumar at RATE Inauguration technology. The conference covered a broad spectrum of topics such as wireless systems, mobile computing, cloud and grid computing and artificial intelligence. Over a hundred papers from all over India were presented at the conference. Dr. K Ramchand, Chief Controller, R&D, DRDO (Retd), Bangalore was the Chief Guest. Dr. Shreekrishna Kumar, Director, AICTE - South Western Regional Office and Mr. Ganesh Shenoy, Vice President of HR Dept., HSBC were the Guests of Honour. Dr. Thomas P. John, Chairman, T. John Group of Institutions presided over the conference.

India Didactics Association (IDA) in collaboration with Academy for Creative Teaching (ACT) organized IDA Connect The Education and Training Forum on January 17, 2013 at Hotel Lalit Ashok. Dr. G P Prabhu Kumar, Dean, TJIT, Mr. Srinivasa H.P, Dept of CSE represented TJIT at the forum.

Department of MCA, TJIT organized a guest lecture on Mission and Safety Critical Software Development by R Venkatesha Babu, Deputy Head of L&T Technology Services-SEZ Unit. The guest lecture was attended by 80 students and 12 faculties from the Departments of MCA, ECE, TJIT and MCA, TJC.

ROBOZEST13
Department of Mechanical Engineering organized ROBOZEST13 which is Indias biggest workshop series cum championship in collaboration with Robo-species Technologies Pvt. Ltd from March 25-26, 2013. 185 delegates attended the workshop. Top 3 groups qualified to attend the ROBOZEST13 finals to be held in August 2013 at IIT Guwahati.

Measurement in IEEE EMBS Special Topic Conference on Point-ofCare Healthcare Technologies from January 16-18, 2013 at Sheraton Bangalore. Dr.P V Rao of Telecom Engg. Dept. was a subject expert in the Doctoral programme of Jain University in Electronics Engineering. He also took a special session for PHD students on March 23, 2013. Dr.P V Rao of Telecom Engg. Dept. delivered a talk on Need of Low Power in Current Technologies on March 1, 2013 for UG and PG students of Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Francis Xavier Engineering College.

VISITS
The Pediatric Dept. conducted an observation visit to juvenile home and mentally retarded childrens home for III Year B.Sc (N) and M.Sc (N) students on February 2013. Ms. Uma Maheshwari and Ms. Smitha Mathew, lecturers from the department accompanied the students. As a part of the curriculum, Pediatric department of TJCN had conducted an observation visit to kidzee International School (Day Care Center and Pre-School). The programme was conducted on February 28, 2013 by 31 III Year B.Sc (N) students under the support of faculties Ms. Jisha Ajo and Ms. Suma. As part of the curriculum, students of TJCN PB B.Sc II Year, B.Sc III Year and M.Sc I Year visited Nightingales Centre for Ageing and Alzheimers on February 19 and 27, accompanied by Ms. Josephine Cynthia, Mr. Rejith Kumar Students & staff in Nightingales and Ms. Yaga Jeyanthi. A brief orientation and a class on Dementia was taken by Ms. Shruthi, Psychologist from Nightingales.

Former President of India, a recipient of Indias Highest Civilian Award Bharat Ratna and a Chief Architect of Indias Integrated Guided Missile Development Program, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam visited T. John College of Pharmacy on February 20, 2013 for a motivational His Excellency Dr. APJ presenting interactive session his books to Dr. Thomas P John with the students of T. John Group of Institutions. A visionary who has donned many a hats in a glittering career of technological and social achievements, Dr. Kalam floored the students with his talk. Highlights of Dr. Kalams talk were: Recitation of a poem named I will fly and fly His walk down memory lane as a student and the scientific temper at those times when the technology was still in developing mode Motivating students across professional lines to collaborate and involve in innovative work for the society His achievements in Biomedical Field Development of Kalam-Raju Tent and Light Weight Caliper (LWC) Oath for the students: * I will have a goal and work hard to achieve that goal. The event began with a welcome speech by Principal of TJCP, Dr. Vineeth Chandy followed by an introductory speech by the Chairman of T. John Group of Institutions, Dr. Thomas P. John, address by Shri. T. John, MLC and Founder of TJGI and concluded with the vote of thanks by Campus Director of TJGI, Wing Commander (Retd) Shri. P. Sambasivan. Apart from TJGI students, students from other colleges across Bangalore such as Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Acharya BM Reddy College of Pharmacy, PES College of Pharmacy, Hill Side College of Pharmacy, Oxford College of Pharmacy, East point College of Pharmacy, Dayanand College of Health Sciences, Islamiah Institute of Technology attended the session. Scientists of Raman Research Institute were also among the attendees. Before departure, Dr. Kalam planted a tree sapling in the T. John Campus premises symbolizing Go Green and Save the Planet mantra of his. He also presented his new book to the Chairman of TJGI Dr. Thomas P . John. VISITS
M. Pharma students of TJCP visited Mycure Pharma Private Limited, Bangalore on March 11 & March 30, 2013. The company formulates Nutraceuticals like protein powders and multivitamin powders. PG research students of Pharmaceutics Department received huge quantities of blend mix for their research work ahead. Mrs. Khalida Khanum, Dr. Sandhya and Mr. Ranajith, staff of TJCP attended the International Conference held under India BIO 2013 from February 4-6, 2013 at the Lalit Ashok Hotel. It was an opportunity for the staff to get exposed to various sophisticated and improvised equipments exhibited by industry leaders like Biocon, CFTRI and Biocenter. Students of TJCP visited Sagar Multispecialty Hospital, Bangalore on March 19, 2013. The visit was to familiarize the students on use of sophisticated medical instruments and the functioning of different wings such as Dialysis Unit, Blood Unit, CT & MRI Scan Dept. in a multi-specialty hospital.
TJCP has been permitted for one year (monthly visit) to access Library of Regional Research Institute, Bangalore. This development presents a unique and invaluable opportunity for Pharmacy Dept. students to avail the mammoth literature surveys available at the library for their herbal drug formulations. An enormous development was the authentication of many a medicinal plants from TJCP garden by the research scientists of RRI for better research. TJCP takes this opportunity to congratulate all its faculty members and staff for their efforts.

GROUP DISCUSSION
TIMS conducted a group discussion for UG and PG students from January 21-22, 2013. Under UG, 5 groups from BCOM IV and BBM IV Sem and under PG, 9 groups from MBA TIMS students in GD I Sem competed. This enabled the students to develop their leadership quality, get rid of the stage fear and develop communication skills.
National Seminar
M. Pharma students participated in a one day National Seminar Invitro Invivo Correlation organized by JSS College of Pharmacy, Tamil Nadu on February 16, 2013. Eminent speakers and dignitaries at the seminar spoke on various Invitro Invivo techniques and patents.

ORIENTATION PROGRAM
TIMS arranged an Orientation Program for B.COM and MBA students on March 23, 2013 which was rendered by Mr. Sudheendra from Greet Technologies Pvt. Ltd. He explained about the basic accounting features like types of accounts, types of financial reports, features and functions of TALLY and technical aspects of TALLY amongst other aspects. languages for all UG students TJC Rural Development Program TJC students and the NSS Unit visited schools in the rural areas of Ragihalli on January 17, 2013. The students sensitized the young school children on aspects of environment conservation, pollution and importance of education Blood Donation Camp - TJC conducted a blood donation camp on January 18, 2013 in co-ordination with Lions Blood Bank and Victoria Hospital. In all 136 units of blood was collected.
TIMS students attended a German course workshop on February 18, 2013. Conducted by Ms. Ritu Suri and Ms. Kamala S Iyer, the workshop involved a presentation for students willing to learn German in order to improve their employability and the importance of learning it.

Infosys Technologies Ltd. visited TJC on January 8, 2013 to conduct campus interview. The process commenced with a brief presentation about the company followed by G D and P I. Mr. Sheikh, Mr. Prathyaksh Raj from HR Dept. of Infosys conducted the interviews and 10 students were issued Letter of Interest.

Cookery Club - TJC has started a Cookery Club fully equipped with a professional functional kitchen and assisted by senior BHM students led by Chef Sridhar. The objectives of the Cookery Club are to learn basics of cooking, to become more creative in the kitchen, to increase interaction of various departments for events involving BHM & party planning Literary Club For the students of Literary Club has been opened where the club is subdivided into Dramatics, Debate & Quiz section. The club is led by Dr. Panchali from the Dept. of Languages Cultural Club A club for students interested in dance & music has been opened in TJC which is led by Ms. Shiva from BT Dept. Under this club TJC has also formed its first band with Denil Limbu (IV Sem, BCA) leading it.

The Women Cell of TJC celebrated International Womens Day on March 8, 2013. Ms. Vijaya Bopanna, Head HR from Reliance Retail was the Chief Guest. She shared her experiences and gave an insightful talk on Work Life Balance for Todays Working Women. A quiz was organized on Women of Past and Present by MBA students. BBM team won the first prize.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT
Department of FAD organized a one-day trip to Belur and Halebidu on March 15, 2013. This one-day trip was organized as part of their curriculum with respect to the subject historical costume, fashion accessories and fashion illustration. Faculties Mrs. Hemalatha, Mrs. Yashaswini, Mrs. Thejaswini and Mrs. Heena accompanied 51 B.Sc FAD students for this trip Department of FAD organized a visit for VI, IV & II Sem students to Weavers Service Center on January 11, 2013. Students were accompanied by FAD faculties, Mrs. Thejaswini, Mrs. Yashaswini and Mrs. Hemalatha B. Sc (FAD) VI, IV & II Sem students along with faculties Mrs. Thejaswini, Mrs. Heena & Mrs. Hemalatha visited Harshakala Exhibition held at RBNS Grounds Commercial Street on February 9, 2013.

Guest Lecture on Science Fiction - A guest lecture titled Science Fiction: To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before was organized by Dr. Panchali Mukherjee on March 9, 2013 for BA (JEP) and BCA students. The resource person for the guest lecture was Dr. Aninda Bhattacharya who is a Lead Scientist in GE (General Electric). Ebenezer Breman Veerasingam, alumni of TJC from BA (JEP) conducted a guest lecture on February 15, 2013. He introduced the world of blogging and how a blogger can get exposure to the world and vice versa.

Industrial Visit to All India Radio - BA (JEP) students were taken for an industrial visit to All India Radio on March 7, 2013. Sr. Journalism Lecturer Ms. Pooja Basnett organized the visit and accompanied the students.

Aisha - Hindi romantic comedy movie Aisha (2010) starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol was screened for II Sem BA (JEP) students on March 28, 2013. by Dr. Panchali Mukherjee MBA students participated and presented the Impact on Union Budget covering problems in economic development, society, enterprise levels and individual levels. Shri Kameshwarn, Auditor of major reputed companies in Hosur of Tamil Nadu state was the Chief Guest who delivered the pros and cons of the Union Budget.

Session on Equity Savings Scheme

The students were addressed by Ms. Ketki Khedkar, Assistant Manager from NSE, Chennai. The session had a presentation on RGESS, its features, benefits especially tax benefits.
PRE-PLACEMENT TRAINING
Department of Management Studies organized an interactive session on Logical Reasoning and Comprehensive Problem Solving Ability for MBA IV Sem students as a part of pre-placement training activity. The event was conducted by subject matter expert Mr. Srinivas Belvi on February 22, 2013. Mr. Manohar Ramesh and Mr. Arun Kumar coordinated the session.
WORKSHOP
A half-day workshop on Micro Analysis of Financial Statements - A Unique model and Exercise Based session was conducted for I Sem MBA students on January 24, 2013. The workshop was handled by resource person Mr. S Chandra Shekar, Managing Director of Empower HR Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore. The session included Comparative Statement Analysis and Banking Regulations applicable to funding assistance.

Bakery Fest
A bakery fest was conducted by the members of Apperette Club. It portrayed a huge variety of cakes, cookies, pastries and rolls. The main patron of the event was Chairman of TJGI Dr. Thomas P John.
Mr. Sandeepan, Director of Sales and Marketing of JustFood.in spoke on entrepreneurial skills which one can develop if a person wants to start his own establishment. It is an online food ordering source through which guests can conveniently sit at home and order the food they like which will be later delivered at their door step. Mr. Vineeth Menon, Senior Trainer from Cafe Coffee Day gave a guest lecture on February 9, 2013.
Flower Arrangement
A flower arrangement workshop was organized by Ms. Bandana Singh and Ms. Nishi Priya as part of the curriculum for the final year students who are specializing in Housekeeping.
Workshops
A front office workshop was conducted by the final year students for II and IV Sem BHM students which envisaged the importance of the front office department in a hotel A workshop was organized by the Food & Beverage Service Culto Club on February 8, 2013. A team of students presented a mock setup of various sections of the Food & Beverage Service department of a hotel. They were guided by Mr. Sathish Kumar, Mr. Suresh N and Mr. Gopi Anand. exhibition was on different types of biotech related companies and instruments. Companies like Biocon, CFTRI, Biocenter etc. were present in full force. B.Sc Biotechnology students under the guidance of Mr. Adil Khan were taken for an industrial visit to Bangalore Dairy on February 20, 2013, Mr. Srinivasa Murthy, Dy. IV Sem M.Sc BC students attended the seminar along with faculty Dr. Deepa Gopinath attended two day Science Academies Lecture Workshop on Progress and Challenges in Medical Biotechnology held from February 15-16, 2013, organized by the Dept of Biotechnology, Christ University, Bangalore. Department of Bioscience along with M.SC Biotech and Biochemistry students attended an International conference on Increasing Agriculture Productivity and Sustainability in India held from January 8-9, 2013 at the Indian Institute of Science Campus.

T. John College, Department of Biosciences and Susplex Bio & Clinical Solutions jointly organized a Guest Lecture on Scope of Clinical Research & Career Aspects on January 25, 2013. Guest Lecturer Mrs. Sri Vigjnya from DHRC Cancer Research center explained about clinical Research and its applications.
