THE MASTERS MESSAGE
From The East I would first like to congratulate brother Bryan Requena for being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. We had a very good degree team that evening and some nice fellowship preceding the degree. Thanks to the brothers from Beach Cities lodge that came to help out. Our public schools program will be on Saturday May 4th starting at 5:00 PM. It is our chance to honor some fine students form our area schools. You are all welcome to come to the lodge this evening, there will be a catered dinner served and then we will retire to the lodge room for the program which will consist of the winning students reading their papers that they prepared aloud. It should be a very special evening for all, hope to see you there. The month of May is when we support the Masonic Homes of California. Since 1898 the Masons of California have been supporting this most important effort. The first masonic home was set up in Union City to care for elderly brothers and their widows. Later the second home was opened in Covina CA and served as an orphanage for a time but now only cares for our brothers, their wifes, and their widows. If you have not been there to visit, I urge you too. I am working with our Senior Deacon Morel Callueng to go there later this year and confer a degree for the brothers there. Our fund raiser program will be Tuesday May 14th at 6:30 PM. We will have a nice dinner and then listen to a representative from the Home in Covina talk about all the good work that they are doing there. This will be a fund raiser for the Homes so please bring your check books or you may bring cash and our brother secretary will receive it from you and make the proper recent for your tax deductible donation. When making your check please make it out to MHEF (Masonic Homes Endowment Fund). Please my brothers remember the solemn obligation you took to aid and support a distressed worthy Brother, his Widow and orphans. This is your chance to make good on that what you said you would do, so come on out that night and let us practice the tenets of freemasonry; Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. We will be having a first degree for Mr. Frederick Espejo U.S.N. on Tuesday May 28th. We also have many potential candidates submitting their applications for the degrees of masonry here in El Segundo Lodge. Looks like we will be very busy the next few months with degrees. Membership is up and moral is high. Keep it up my brothers!! See you at the Lodge,

3rd Degree Conferral Bro. Brian Requena

From the West My Brothers, This past week I had the rare opportunity to get away from work and enjoy some down time. I went out to the Panamint Valley area, which is at the western edge of Death Valley, to do some camping with my sons and other friends. One of the members of the group was a virtual Desert Docent with vast knowledge of the area and its history and I was enthralled at the depth of his knowledge of the mines and their former inhabitants along with his familiarity of the mineralogy and geology of the area. Pick up an interesting looking rock and Ed could tell you (mostly) what it consisted of; he had compiled and written books about the (now Ghost) town of Ballarat and local mines. Also near here lies the infamous Barker Ranch which hosted the demonic proceedings of Charlie Manson and his communal followers back in the late 1960s. During the course of my explorations I came across a few Masonic symbols, one of which was on a grave marker in Ballarats cemetery and another on a memorial near Chris Wicht's Camp circa 1878. I experienced a feeling of connectedness in this beautiful, stark and somewhat random location, in the ruins of a century old mine and mill to the souls and spirits our long past Brethren. Good Times Fraternally, Wayne Mularz, SW From the South Brethren, First I want to congratulate Brian Requena, our most recently raised MM. Also I apologize to Brian, for failing to work on his degree. Last year I promised to help my daughter host the OV Visit for the WGM of Nevada. That occur on the same weekend as Brother Brian's degree. May will be a very important & busy month, due partly to scheduling difficulty during April. As you know April is traditionally Public Schools Month, we were unable to schedule the Essay Program in April. That event will be held on Saturday May 4. I hope to see you there & help El Segundo Lodge honor some very fine students. Also May is the month we hold our Annual Fund Raiser for the Masonic Homes. The lodge will provide a fine dinner. Grand Lodge will provide a speaker from the Masonic Home at Covina. If you are attending the program, it will be appreciated, if you will provide a check made out to Masonic Homes Endowment Fund. If your would rather give cash, the Secretary will accept it, send it to GL for you. Remember we have each one pledged to support our needy Brothers & widows. There is a no better way to show that support then to contribute to the MHEF. Also that contribution is Tax deductible, & you will receive a letter from GL confirming it. It's well to keep in mind, that our Brothers over a century ago established the Masonic Home. Since that time it has been enlarged, & nearly 100 years ago a second Home was established in Southern California. Our Master is planning a trip to the Home in Covina this year. It is my hope, that we will have a large group in attendance, during that event. 4 Fraternally, John "Jack" Morrison JW IN GOD WE TRUST!
