XXX PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND POLICY OFFICER MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB To ensure the public policy agenda relating to XXX reflects the needs and opportunities of XXX and to increase the profile of XXX and awareness, understanding and support for XXXs work by through the delivery of public affairs activities. POSITION IN ORGANISATION Reports To: External Relations Manager

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES A Public Affairs With the External Relations Manager, deliver an on-going contact programme targeting key civil servants in government departments in England and support colleagues to do the same in XXX. With the External Relations Manager, plan and implement a programme to build understanding of XXX and support for XXX among MPs in England and support colleagues to do the same in XXX. To plan engagement with XXXs key stakeholders, managing the external contacts database to identify changes in personnel and gaps in XXXs reach. As part of this, provide direction to the Communications Administrator in organising meetings, project visits and maintaining databases. To coordinate and ensure full policy briefing of those representing XXX at national and regional level stakeholder meetings, in relation to XXX and related policy areas. To ensure that policy resolutions are appropriately gathered from members and that those passed at conference are taken forward appropriately. Maintain regular contact with staff in XXX to understand issues impacting on XXX and ensure a consistent approach to lobbying and advocacy. Develop and maintain good working relationships with partner organisations to support the promotion of XXX more widely To represent XXX at stakeholder meetings and working groups as agreed with the External Relations Manager Policy development To work closely with the Research and Policy Officer to ensure a shared understanding of current policy issues To ensure that XXX responds to all relevant national policy consultations in England and XXX, working with the Research and Policy Officer and Policy Officer (XXX), so that national policy in both countries reflects the priorities of home-based XXX.

To ensure that key external stakeholders are kept up to date and informed of XXXs positions to ensure that national policy making reflect home-based XXX. To regular brief and support staff in Membership and Professional Development to ensure they are kept up to date with the latest policy developments and XXXs position to inform future membership services and ensure appropriate advice is given to members.

Experience in a similar role including: A track record of lobbying and influencing government and other political stakeholders Working in an evidence based policy environment Collaborative working with external partners and agencies

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Project management skills with a proven capacity to organise and plan time effectively to meet deadlines Intermediate ICT skills Lobbying and advocacy skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills Excellent oral, written and presentation skills Collaborative working as part of a team Demonstrate anti-discriminatory practice in all areas of work

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of UK government system Evidence based policy making Knowledge and commitment to diversity and ability to apply awareness of diversity issues to all areas of work Current XXX policy and delivery of childrens services, in particular XXX and early years services Educated to degree level or equivalent Evidence of CPD with demonstrable relevance to the services managed
