JOB TITLE: Website Officer TEAM: GROUP: LOCATION: REPORTS TO: GRADE: HOURS: Context and purpose of the job Organisation Group Team Role Following the lead of the manager, the post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that website content is of a high quality, up-to-date and consistent. The post-holder will enable the development of the website through active collaboration with other staff in the preparation of materials. Main duties and responsibilities The Website Officer will need to be flexible in a rapidly changing environment and tasks may vary. In addition to the broad descriptions above, the post-holder will be expected to complete the following amongst other tasks:

To be responsibility for the news section; uploading press releases and other content, writing short news stories and writing the news review every fortnight To write and send e-newsletters using our external hosted newsletter system To add updates to the existing content of the website, micro sites and intranet on a regular basis, including adding new pages, online forms and pdfs To support the manager on new media initiatives and the delivery of new projects including appeals, campaigns and new micro sites To record monthly stats of the website To implement techniques to improve the usability of the websites

Administration The post-holder is expected to service his or her own administrative requirements e.g., filing, word processing, diary-keeping and travel arrangements

Website Officer

1. Experience in writing news stories and summaries 2. Experience in updating and maintaining websites Desirable Experience of delivering web material in a voluntary sector environment Knowledge, skills and abilities Essential 1. Up-to-date knowledge of best practice in a web environment 2. Familiarity with using a content management system for maintaining and developing websites 3. Knowledge of communicating using other new media mobile phone, video casting, podcasting, blogs and other Web version 2.0 initiatives 4. The ability to write factual information clearly and accurately for web, particularly for audiences whose first language is not English 5. Proven ability to organise content in a web environment (information architecture) 6. The ability to write clear and coherent content and design briefs for staff and external contributors to ensure the timely delivery of content 7. The ability to produce images for the Adobe Photoshop (or similar) 8. The ability to work in Dreamweaver to update existing sites (or knowledge of HTML) 9. Basic proof reading skills 10. The ability to work effectively with external stakeholders and contractors on web issues 11. The ability to prioritise and time-mange multiple requests and to translate requests into planned scheduled work 12. Willingness to contribute actively to a team The ability to work under own initiative and be self-motivated and resolve problems when an immediate solution is not apparent Desirable 1. HTML coding ability 2. High level image manipulation skills animations, logos etc
