Kalicilik and Organochlorine, Representative of Insecurity Food Production Ike Novitasari

All of the big problems in the world come from the small things. In this essay location of point is Kalicilik Village, Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Indonesia. Most of Kalicilik people are farmers. Kalicilik is small village in mountains area of Bromo-Semeru Tengger, road for this access is very difficult, level of education quality is low, and new information cant be accepted easily. The big comodity of agriculture is vegetables like cabbages, carrots, and potatoes. More of above problems, the focus is bad system of kalicilik agriculture. Some researches have found which water quality in Probolinggo is bad, contain high organochlorine from Pesticide. From Kalicilik village we can analysis what is main problems cause in the future food is not security and not nutritious. This essay can break and overcoming the problems with kalicilik as representative from the world. Pesticide is chemical compounds which generally used by farmers to protect their crops from pest and disease. Reality in Kalicilik all of farmers use pesticide throghout the season and without control. They doesnt know the effect for their selve or for others organism. Pesticide contain many dangerous compounds, one of them is organochlorine. Organochlorine can damage nervous system of human. Organochlorine can contaminate by crops (50%), soil (30%) and water (20%). Actually, in Kalicilik after they had harvested, the agriculture product have been washed by water which contain organochlorine. Although vegetables have high nutritions, but from the application use pesticide the nutritions is loss. Probolinggo have 325 villages, if every village use pesticide like in Kalicilik we can assume that how many organochlorine in vegetables are consumed by people in Probolinggo or the others area. We will analysis from 2 point of contaminate are crops , soil, and water. We assume that, every percentage is loss approximately 10% because of others factors as efficiency. Crops from 50% to 40%, Soil from 30% to 20%, and water from 20% to 10%. Because crops are produced by soil media, watering by local irrigation so we can assume by accumulate from percentage of 3 factors, and the point is 70% crops contaminate by organochlorine. If productivity Kalicilik village is 1000 tons vegetable every year, 700 tons vegetables in Kalicilik contaminate by organochlorine. The high percentage from this make food with high nutritions is loss just 30% vegetables are free from organochlorine.

So, what is affect for the local population and for wider population? Organochlorine cant loss easily, this compound can be fused with crops, soil, and water easily. For the local population can affect directly, the nervous disease can reach them early because they consume local vegetables, use water contaminate with organochlorine, inbreath contaminate air, directly contact with contamination soil. For the wider area or population can be reached by water. The water from kalicilik and others village finally fused in river, and from river fused in the sea, from the sea can contaminate fish and others sea organism. Actually some country and some people like seafood, remember that seafood is high nutritions but can loss the nutritions and insecuriy too beacause of organochorine. Although, some country very protective import product of agriculture and food. But, actually from others factors like sea, water can reach the safe area become insecurity. Residue of pesticide can sustain in environment very long time, especially for organochlorine can contaminate water and grassland in animal husbandry, the cattle produce milk, and milk is consumed by people especially baby, this can damage potential brain of baby. Nervous system of baby will decrease, moreover cause palsied. Not only above, quality of bad environment like soil, water, air can effect crops/plants condition. They cant maximum to produce, so human have to make engineering to feed the world. But, it cant exis. Human cant produce like nature, growing of people make this harder. Finally, most of people starve and die. People compete to get food, killing each other to get their needed. Therefore, needed solution to prevent accumulation of pesticide and decrease use of pesticide. Some countries had developed sustainable agriculture, Indonesia too. But, reality to develop this system is difficult. Sustainable agriculture is system of agriculture basic from environment. The real step are first, improve access for information and acomodation to the village. If the acomodation is good, all of information can reach the village. Second, increase quality of education. If the education is good, the people can be prevented to use pesticide and other chemical compounds. Third, especially for sustainable agriculture have to be practiced in field of farmers. All of theory can success if that can be realized in field. If all of agriculture pure of nature, the food can security Needed of security and nutrious feed is important. Not only for govern project but also in small village, that is urgent problems. If small things go unnotice, this can be increased bigger and affect not only in local area but in the world, like in Kalicilik Village, Indonesia.

Moreover, role of youth is very important as a driver of the course a new system. However, this issue has spreaded in the world, but only be disscused in lecture, colloquium, conference and others object. But, in Youth Ag-Summit we have opportunity to discuss and
applicate with another people in another country. We can consider among some different condition and we can conclude what is the best solution to be used. Youth Ag-Summit can support our perspective to be used in some area.
