Title of Unit: Learning My Way Around the World Title of Lesson: Taking a Trip Day 2 Submitted By: Robyn

A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This social studies lesson is designed for a 1st grade student to put their map and research skills to use. Students will be creating a project that takes them around the world. This will be the follow up to the first day of the project and the conclusion of the unit. B. Target Population: Grade Level: 1st Grade Skill Level: All learning levels Grouping: Small group activity, individual assessment. C. Materials: Paper Pencil Computers Poster Board Handout of assignment

D. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards G5.1.2 Describe maps as representations of places. G5.1.4 Use simple maps to illustrate direction. G5.1.5 Visually display geographic information using simple lists, graphs, and maps. Student-Friendly Standards I know that maps are used to show where places are. I can use a map to show direction. I can show geographic information using list, graphs, and maps.

E. Procedure: 1. I will tell students to get into their groups and begin working on finishing their projects. They will get half of the period to finish gathering information and putting it on their poster board. 2. Once students are done getting all of the information that they need for their project they will present their projects to the class. Students will have to mention what continent they chose and the country in the continent they chose as well as each group member telling the class one of the important facts that they found out about.

3. CLOSURE: Students will take an end of the unit quiz once they are done. The quiz will be 5 questions: 1. What is a map used for? 2. What continent do you live on? a. Asia b. North America c. South America 2. How many oceans are there? a. 3 b. 4 c. 5 3. What state do we live in? a. America b. Nevada c. North America 4. What country do we live in? a. United States b. Canada c. Mexico

F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will use the quiz to measure if students understand. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will know students understand the concepts from the lesson if they can correctly answer the questions from the quiz. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think that this lesson will be easy to teach.

2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I dont think that there will be a challenging thing to teach since students are just presenting their projects and taking a quiz. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will tell students to go view videos about continents and oceans as well as maps with their parents. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? Students will be grouped up with other students so their group can help. I will also answer any further questions the student has. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I might want to have the quiz on a different day, just so that students dont get overwhelmed. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? There were no difficult parts in writing this lesson.
