Generation Gap

Summary: It is a fact of life that the generation gap or "clash" is something that has existed and will continue to exist as long as man exists on this earth. It is not restricted to certain parts of the world, to certain times of human history or to certain cultures. That is why this "clash" is a fact of a life accepted by all generations, all over the world and through all time.

Generation gap is a more modern term for the difference between generations, or milder than the extreme definition which calls this difference as the "clash" between the opinions, the attitudes and the behaviors of the younger and the older generations. The inevitable progress of time and technologies makes the introduction of new ideas, new believes, and new values unavoidable. As a result this difference in the general outlook at life arises which is manifest in the difference of opinions and social values, in addition to the difference mannerism and behavior between young people and older people within the family as well as within the social contexts.

Perhaps, the gap generation that exists now between the younger and older generation can best be indicated by the difference of ideas between the young people and the older people in the family,...

Save the Tiger Campaign

There are very few tigers that are available on the Earth today because of various reasons. The common reasons for the decrease in the tiger population are that there are many poachers around who are killing these beasts of the forests indiscriminately to fill their pockets with money. There is still a very high demand for various tiger related products that include the skin, fat and the teeth of the tiger. All these have cause poachers to kill these tigers for their own benefit. Causes of tiger population decrease There are various causes for the decrease in the population of tigers in the wild. The main causes are as follows: 1. Poaching: There is an indiscriminate poaching of tigers in various countries, especially in China. In fact the Chinese government has not been able to control the killings of tigers and so has been thinking of legalizing trade in tiger products so that they will be able to decrease and also have a decreased trade in the tiger products. They believe that the government will be able to control the trade in tiger population if there is a legalizing of trade. 2. The forested land: The decrease in the forested land is another reason for the decrease in the tiger population. There is increased human and tiger encounters where the tigers are killed. This has made tiger population decrease in many parts of the world. Governments are trying to protect the big cats by protecting their natural habitat. Steps taken by governments to save the tiger: 1. Protected tiger reserves: There are many countries that have protected reserves where the tigers can roam free. There are also a high number of officials on patrol in the forests and they are able to decrease the poaching in these forest areas. 2. Creating awareness: The government is also trying to create awareness of the importance of protecting the tiger. Using various media like the print and television has been effective to an extent and there has been a marked decrease in the human animal interface in most of the reserve forests. Adequate compensation to those affected by animal attacks and also the relocation of people living near the forest belts has reduced the number of tiger deaths. The decrease in the tiger population of the world will have major impact on the balance in the forests. In an ecosystem, all the flora and the fauna should be in a proper balance. This balance is very important for the various animals and the plants to survive. Even if there is an imbalance with the decrease in the population of one particular species of animal, there will be a decrease in the population or increase in the population of other groups of species leading to an imbalance in the forest. These are the various facts that each and every person should know about the protection of tigers in their natural habitat. This will help to prevent the extinction of one of the greatest cats to ever roam the forests of the world.

Advantages of Having Grandparents

Grandparents are a positive force for all families but play a significant role in families undergoing difficulties, said Shalhevet Attar-Schwartz, PhD, of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. They can reduce the negative influence of parents separating and be a resource for children who are going through these family changes. The study appears in the February Journal of Family Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association (APA). The researchers found that children and adolescents whose parents have separated or divorced see their grandparents as confidants and sources of comfort. Spending time with a grandparent was found to equip adolescents with better social skills and fewer behavior problems, especially among those children living in single-parent or stepfamily households. Read Faster Quickly improve your speed and comprehension As in previous studies, this research found that grandchildren are closer to their maternal grandparents and closest to their maternal grandmothers. I have found this to be true in my own family. I grew up in a traditional two-parent home with two sets of grandparents and always felt very close to all four of my grandparents. My children grew up without much contact with their grandparents and struggled through adolescence. Now, Im a grandparent and can see how our older grandchildren, who are just now coming into adolescence, tend to stay in touch asking advice, talking about their love lives and much more as though my wife and I were their closest confidants. Voyager Mind's Eye Soar into altered states of consciousness as you relax to unparalleled visually stunning displays and brain-soothing sound. As my wife and I are new to this phenomenon, I cant tell you the outcome. I can, however, tell you that the influence my own grandparents had in my life was profound and substantial .

The last of my grandparents died in 2007 at the age of 97. And although I miss them terribly, my life feels steady and secure because of the influence of my grandparents. As a grandparent, I can attest to the monumental influence grandparents have in the lives of their grandchildren. Even when there is little or no physical contact a letter, email, or phone call can significantly change the direction of an adolescent. And its not the advice given that makes the difference although good advice can make a difference rather, its the care and concern that matters most to the adolescent. Grandparents can touch deep resources within the adolescent genetic resources of which the adolescent and the grandparent are mostly likely unaware yet are profoundly powerful. I like to think there is something magical in grandparents. Theyre just people like everyone else. But for whatever reason nature endowed us with a supernatural reverence for our grandparents that makes them more than just people - theyre fantastic people. We cant help but want to love and respect our grandparents even when they do everything they can to dissuade us. We WANT our grandparents to be special for us. And that want, I believe, gives us access, through imagination, to some of our most powerful psychological assets. If you are a grandparent, I hope you will take the opportunity today to make some magic in the life of one or more of your grandchildren. Especially maternal grandmothers (mothers of mothers) have a special in to the hearts and minds of their daughters children. A letter; postcard; phone call; text message; IM; email; whatever means you choose do it today. You dont have to teach or share wisdom or be wise just let them know you care. Thats all. Everything else is just how you let them know. Parenting is for parents. Grandparenting is for the angels. May we grandparents spread our angel wings of care and support around our grandchildren and create a generation of caring, loving, compassionate young people who will carry on the tradition to their own grandchildren.

Advertisements are misleading

Now we have more practical works part of the new way of studying at school. I need to give a speech next week. Here is what I have prepared.

Respected teacher and my dear friends, Advertisements have become part and parcel of our life. I am sure many of us here love watching ads during commercial break. But do you know most of the ads shown are misleading. The false advertisements have great influence mainly on children who demands many things from parents. But they do not know that it may be very harmful for their health. For example we see so many ads on TV about skin creams and no one clearly refers that for which skin it is suitable and for which skin its allergic. One such creams claim to make you fair within 7 days of application. Do you believe this? No for we know genes in the body decides fairness of the skin.

Page No.(4)

Also the face creams children often demand are for men not for children. Applying these creams will ultimately destroy their natural skins, as the childrens skin is very soft. So we should all be aware of these ads and should not buy any product by seeing the ad only. Also as a good and responsible customer we should know about the product completely and clarify that it would not affect us in bad way and then buy the product. Stephen Leacock once said that Advertising may be described as the science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it. I think that some advertisement companies are arresting our human intelligence way beyond our comfort levels.

Violation of child labour laws in India

Prevention of child labour is a herculean task. The government must ensure that the children are not abused and are given ample opportunities to develop in conditions of freedom and dignity. It cannot be achieved by merely enacting laws. THE CONCEPT of equality of all human beings, as embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of I948 stipulates under Article 25 para two that childhood is entitled to special care and assistance. The above principle along with other principles of the Universal Declaration concerning child were incorporated in the Declaration of the Rights of the Child of 1959.The International Covenant on Civil and Political rights under Articles 23 and 24 and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights under Article 10 made provisions for the care of the child.
The position of India in terms of child labour is not an appreciable one; with a credible estimates ranging from 60 to 115 million, India has the largest number of working children in the world. Whether they are sweating in the heat of stone quarries, working in the fields 16 hours a day, picking rags in the city streets, or hidden away as domestic servants, these children endure miserable and difficult lives. They earn little and are made to work more. They struggle to make enough to eat and perhaps to help feed their families as well. They do not go to school. Many of them have been working since the age of four or five, and by the time they attain adulthood they may be irrevocably sick and deformed they will certainly be exhausted, and in this way they are debarred from enjoying the basic human rights, which are essential for the advancement of ones personality.

The International Convention and other international instruments, which deal with the subject of child labour are as follows:

Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989. Worst form of Child labour Convention 1999; and Worst form of Child Labour Recommendation.

The supreme law of the country, the Constitution of India, too provides certain rights to children and prohibits child labour. Such provisions are as follows:

Article 24 provides that no child below the age of 14 years shall be employed in any factory or mine or engaged in any other hazardous work.

Article 39 (f) says that state, in particular, shall direct its policy towards securing that the health and strength of workers, men and women and the tender age of the children are not abused and that citizens are not forced by economic necessity to enter vocations unsuited to their age or strength.

Article 39 (f) provides that children are given opportunities and facilities to develop in a healthy manner and in conditions of freedom and dignity and that childhood and youth are protected against exploitations and against moral and material abandonment.

Article 45 declares that the state shall endeavour to provide, within the period of 10 years from the commencement of the Constitution, free and compulsory education for all children until they complete the age of 14 years.

Article 21A (added by the 86th Amendment Act 2002) provides that the state shall provide free and compulsory education to all children between the age of six to 14 years in such a manner as the state may by law determine.

Article 51A(k) (added by the 86th Amendment Act 2002) provides who is parent or guardian to provide opportunities for education to his child or the case may be, ward between the age of six and 14 years.

The attention in respect of employment of child labour and the violation of fundamental rights has been brought before the Apex Court in several cases. The Apex Court has issued detailed directions to eradicate the practice of employing children in hazardous industries, mines, or other works.

Prevention of child labour is a herculean task. It has to be seen that the tender age of children is not abused and the children are given opportunities and facilities to develop in a healthy manner and in conditions of freedom and dignity. It cannot be achieved by merely enacting laws; mere legislations cannot be used for the massive task of social engineering. As long as the social attitude and thinking remains deep rooted in the prevailing society and the law enforcement agencies remain silent, justice cannot be promoted by paper enactments.
