Is this lesson original idea? If not, from what source did I borrow this lesson?

Original lesson Math 7th 7-2.7 Translate between standard form and scientific notation.
Describe the lessons activities and content.

The students will practice translating between standard form and scientific notation with negative exponents.
What will students be able to do at the conclusion of this lesson?

The students will be able to translate between standard form and scientific notation with negative exponents with 80% accuracy.
How will I vary these objectives for students who do not understand the material?

Varying Objectives for Individuals Needs

I will vary these objectives for students who do not understand by starting with smaller exponents and showing them a place value cart.
How will I vary these objectives for students who have already mastered the concept?

I will vary these objectives for students who have already mastered the concept by giving them harder problems to work.
How will I vary these objectives for students who are presently learning English?

I will vary these objectives for students who are presently learning English by allowing them the opportunity to speak a loud. Statement of Purpose
Why is it important for the students to learn this content?

Scientific notation is a good way of expressing either incredibly large numbers or incredibly small numbers as equivalent to a power of 10.
What materials and supplies are needed to help your students achieve the stated objectives? What will the teacher need? What will the students need? What other resources are needed? Will you use resource speakers?

Materials and Resources

I will need a laptop, starboard, worksheets. The students will need their notebooks and pencils. Anticipatory Set
What will you do to motivate the students and get their attention? What is the hook that will serve as a focus for the lessons activities?

The smallest insect in the world is a Fairy Fly or a Dicopomorpha echmepterygis, 0.005472441 inches 5.47244110-3 0.000139 meters

Part II: IMPLEMENTATION Pre-assessment

How will I find out what students already know about this topic?

I will show the students the measure of the Fairy Fly in standard form and see if they can figure out how to write it in scientific notation.
What will I do to show students what is expected?

Teacher Modeling or Demonstration Guided Practice

I will give the students examples of how to translate between scientific notation and standard form with negative exponents.
What will we do together as they learn how to succeed at the new task? -6

3.2310 9.3110-9 .004857 .064 The students will change these examples to scientific notation or standard form.
What questions will you ask to determine if students understand so far? What techniques or strategies will be used to determine if students understand so far?

Checking for Understanding Independent Practice

What direction are we moving the decimal? How many places is the decimal being moved?
What will students do by themselves to show that they have internalized the knowledge?

A worksheet that allows the students to practice translating between scientific notation and standard form with positive and negative exponents. Closure
How will I conclude the lesson and relate it to future experiences? How will you wrap up the lesson to reinforce concepts taught during the lesson?

Write on a separate sheet of paper your definition of scientific notation. Assessment (attach to lesson plan) Extension Activities
What will students do to demonstrate what they have learned?

Common Assessment
What can students do at home or in the classroom to apply the knowledge or skills? How could you use your colleagues or community agencies to improve student performance?

Holt. Practice B, 1-4 Technology

Describe the strengths of your instructional techniques, strategies and classroom management. Describe the strengths of student engagement. How will you connect this lesson with other content areas across the curriculum?

I will connect this lesson to science. Scientific notation is used in science all the time to measure objects and to represent large or small numbers.

Strength that because I used to the star board a lot of the students were involved with the lesson. Weaknesses
Describe the weaknesses of your instructional techniques, strategies and classroom management. Describe the weaknesses of student engagement.

All the students did not get an opportunity to use the board so I needed to walk around more so that I could make sure the

students were grasping the concept. Suggestions for Improvement
