Message from the Worshipful Master Jack Capra

Dear Brothers,

April was another great month for Solomon Lodge. We passed several new brothers into the Fellowcraft degree and await their advancement to Master Mason. Family night on the 23rd was a wonderful time at the Jacksonville Suns Baseball Stadium; unfortunately they lost in the 9th inning. The upgrades on the upper deck are still progressing and hopefully will be complete soon. Next month we will be dark for our second meeting so that some of us can attend the Grand Lodge in Orlando. I thank you all for your continued support, and, as always, I want to thank our JW and his crew for outstanding meals for our meetings. God bless.

From the Digest

Digest of Masonic Law

Digest topic submitted by Robby Stokes PDDGM 11th District Well, Grand Lodge Communication is at the end of this month. We have newbies asking about what will take place and how. Everything is similar to what is found in the Blue Lodge, but with a lot more planning. Motions are made in the form of resolutions and placed in a legislative booklet. This allows the delegates to see what is to be voted upon. The only real difference is that there is a Jurisprudence Committee that has the duty of reviewing all resolutions to see if it falls within the ancient customs and usages of the Digest of Masonic Law. They make recommendations for acceptance or rejection. Ultimately it is up to the craft to decide the matter by a vote of the Grand Lodge Delegates(principal officers or their proxies and past Masters). Grand Lodge Communication voting is found in Chapter 12 sections 13- 15.

12.13 All voting, in both Grand and Particular Lodges, not requiring ball or written ballot, shall be by "show of hands."

12.14 In all cases, when voting in Grand Lodge upon any Resolution which will levy, or cause to be levied, a tax or assessment upon Particular Lodges or the members thereof, the vote shall be taken in the same manner and under the same Laws and Regulations as the voting for Grand Lodge Officers.

12.15 Any proposed amendment or alteration of the Constitution, or Regulations to be presented to the Grand Lodge for adoption at an Annual Communication shall be submitted to the Grand Secretary before December 31 by Resolution explaining the reasons for amending the Constitution or Regulation or proposing new Constitutional provisions or Regulations, using no more than two letter size typewritten single spaced pages, and must be sent by the Grand Secretary to each Particular Lodge, the Grand Lodge Elective Officers, the District Deputy Grand Masters, the District Instructors, and Past Grand Masters no later than sixty (60) days prior to the Grand Lodge Annual Communication. (1993)

A proposed amendment or alteration of a Regulation or of the Constitution may be designated emergency legislation by a majority vote of members present and presented at the Annual Grand Communication for consideration by the members of the Grand Lodge present and voting. (1984)

RESOLUTION FOR FAMILY NIGHTS ON THE 4TH MONDAY

Whereas: our bylaws presently calls for us to hold two stated communications per month and, Whereas: the digest of Masonic law provides that each Masonic Lodge shall have at least one Stated Communications per month and, Whereas: If Solomon Lodge wishes to hold a family night on one of our regular nights, we can only do so by special action of the lodge (Vote on and placed in the minutes) and notify the craft and, Whereas: our family nights have really improved our fraternal relationships and, Whereas: we wish to make it easier to hold a family night and allow the Master to set his calendar in advance and, Whereas: to accomplish this task we need to change our bylaws. Therefore be it resolved: that our by-laws be amended to read. That the second stated communications which happens to fall on the fourth Monday may be changed to a family night at the discretion of the Worshipful Master and with proper notification to the craft by trestleboard or other appropriate means. This will be voted on at our first Stated Communication in June.

MASONIC ETIQUETTE
AGED AND INFIRM

Members of a Lodge who, because of age or infirmity, find it either difficult or impossible to attend at the assemblies of their Brethren stand in need of special consideration at the hand of their Lodge; and because of theircondition, no others are so peculiarly appreciative of the kindness or courtesies that may be shown them. A Lodge will maintain its contacts with them unbroken; will see that they are visited; will send them messages on special occasions, and perhaps encourage its members to remember them now and again with appropriate gifts or other reminders. Some Lodges follow the admirable custom of setting aside once each year a Patriarchs Night in honor of its aged members; others make it a practice at certain intervals to send a vehicle for such as are physically able to attend Lodge, but have not the means.

Aprils Family Night

Aprils Family Night was attended by 31 brothers, wives, and friends at the Jacksonville Suns Baseball grounds to cheer on while they challenged the Chattanooga Lookouts. It was very windy and chilly evening on the 3rd floor Sky Deck while we shared a meal of Hot Dogs & Hamburgers, or so it was called. --------------------------------------------------------------------
