Act 1 Scene 2 Claudius gave a message to Frontibras that theyre state is not disjointed (line 17-20) Laertes is devoted

ed and loyal (goes to Denmark to support Claudius and asked to leave to go to France) Claudius tries to be a father to Hamlet (line 64) The queen had moved on (married Claudius) As for Hamlet, still very conflicted and tormented (he is suffering from his father death) Claudius gives Hamlet tough love, calls him unmanly (line 99-97) The king tries to guilt Hamlet into accepting the fact Claudius is king, wants Hamlet close to him to keep a eye on him (doesnt want Hamlet to go back to the university) It been two months since Hamlets father death (Hamlet still wears only black) Hamlet thinks about taking away his own life and wishes that God didnt make suicide a sin Denmark is rotting and in chaos (line 135-137) describe has a rotting garden Towards women, Hamlet thinks women are weak and doesnt trust them (doesnt trust his mother because she married Claudius, Hamlet see this as betrayal) Line 84 Sign of madness/insane? Act 1 Scene 3 Laertes tells Ophelia that Hamlet flirting will last only a minute, he may love you now but he will forget about you later Whatever choice Hamlet has, he has to think about the whole kingdom too Line 29-33 Laertes says to his sister that she should be careful with her virginity. Says that even the most prudence girl can change Polonius gives advice If you have an unsuitable thought, dont put it in action Dont socialize to much to ordinary people It is good to have friends but once you tested them and they are loyal, hold on to them dont pick fights with anyone dont listen to every men spend money on clothes but not too flashy dont borrow or lend money, thats how you lose friends Polonius tells his son to be yourself Polonius wants to know what is going on between Ophelia and Hamlet Thinks that Ophelia is not representing herself as his daughter Polonius calls Ophelia green girl meaning she is inexperience Calls her foolish for her action making Polonius look foolish also Ophelia tries to defend Hamlet from her fathers word Polonius tell his daughter to not believe in Hamlets words and not to waste her time on him. Act 1 Scene 5 Purgatory the idea of someone atoning for their sin, in between heaven and hell Hamlet follows the ghost The ghost tells Hamlet that what he is going to hear, he will want to take revenge Old Hamlet was denied the opportunity Old Hamlet was murdered (line 27-28) was murder in an unnatural way, his brother (Claudius) killed him Denmark thinks that while old hamlet was sleeping, an poisonous snake game into the orchard and bit old hamlet Old hamlet says that the snake that bit him is wearing his crown Claudius was having an affair with Hamlet mother (he used fancy present or any method to seduce Gertrude, Hamlets mother) While old hamlet was taking a nap in the orchid, Claudius came and pours a vile of poison into his ear, the poison moved quickly to his vein making his blood curl and made his skin turn into a crusty rash.
