ESCOFET 1886, S.A. tiene, desde su origen decimonnico, una vocacin fundacional de servicio a la arquitectura y a la construccin, iniciada en la fabricacin y edicin de los pavimentos de mosaico hidrulico para el interior de las viviendas del Modernismo. La misin de la compaa es contribuir a mejorar la calidad de vida y el imaginario de los ciudadanos, con un gran componente de innovacin y criterios constructivos en edicacin y en espacio urbano, explotando la mejor tecnologa y excelencia del material hormign, que se extiende a otros materiales. El valor de la compaa, en lo industrial, cultural y editorial, radica en la acumulacin histrica del capital humano e intelectual que reeja la marca. Su estrategia pionera de anticipacin de la demanda en interaccin con los proyectistas, el liderazgo en la generacin de un vocabulario universal de elementos urbanos, as como su certero servicio de logstica, son claves en su expansin internacional. La recuperacin del espacio pblico para el ciudadano, como espacio arquitectnico y simblico, es un hecho importante en la Europa de los ltimos veinticinco aos. A partir de 1980 en Barcelona, como en ninguna otra ciudad, es posible contemplar la formulacin de un nuevo concepto de espacio urbano. En este sentido ESCOFET es una referencia de 120 aos de la ciudad de Barcelona y de los ltimos 25 aos de su espacio urbano. Sucesin de imgenes de la ciudad que forman parte del imaginario colectivo del ciudadano, espacios ya annimos donde transcurre la novela de la vida en escenarios de durabilidad fsica, conceptual y sentimental. Fundacin de la compaa ESCOFET y FORTUNY, Sociedad Colectiva, por Jaume Escofet, dedicada a la fabricacin de pavimentos. A dicha sociedad sigue Escofet y Tejera. La compaa recibe la Medalla de Oro en la Exposicin Universal de Barcelona de 1888. The company ESCOFET & FORTUNY, a general partnership company, founded by Jaume Escofet, is dedicated to the manufacture of pavements. Followed later by the company Escofet & Tejera, received the Gold Medal at the Universal Exposition of Barcelona in 1888.
1906
Los mosaicos hidrulicos del Modernismo que Escofet realiza conjuntamente con arquitectos como Llus Domnech i Montaner o Alexandre de Riquer, tienen su mejor ejemplo en el Mosaico hexagonal que hace Antoni Gaud para el interior de la Pedrera. Una adaptacin del mismo modelo pavimentar 90 aos ms tarde el Paseo de Gracia de Barcelona. The best example of the Modernist hydraulic mosaics which Escofet realized together with architects such as Llus Domnech i Montaner or Alexandre de Riquer is the hexagonal Mosaic made by Antoni Gaud for the interior of la Pedrera. A redisign of the same model would form the pavement of el Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona ninety years later.

La introduccin en el espacio urbano a travs de la produccin de panots para pavimentar las aceras de Barcelona, inicia la estrecha relacin de la compaa con el espacio pblico de la ciudad. By introducing itself into urban spaces through the production of panots to pave the sidewalks of Barcelona the company initiates its close involvement with the public spaces of the city.
1950
El hormign vibroprensado es introducido en Espaa por Escofet, dando lugar a una serie de pavimentos de produccin automatizada idneos para interior y exterior. Esto rearma la presencia de la compaa en la ciudad, con pavimentos tan signicativos como el de Las Ramblas diseado por Adolfo Florensa en 1968. Vibropressed concrete is introduced into Spain by Escofet, giving rise to a series of automatically produced pavings ideal both for inside and outside. All this, together with pavements as signicant as that of the Ramblas designed by Adolfo Florensa in 1968, consolidate the presence of the company in the city.
1970
Los paneles de cerramiento de fachadas de hormign armado abren la actividad de la compaa al mundo de la edicacin, generando una serie de capacidades tcnicas y proyectuales para la prefabricacin de elementos de construccin. Panels for the nishing of faades made of reinforced concrete open up the companys activities to the world of architecture and create a series of technical and project abilities for the prefabrication of construction elements.

La produccin de mobiliario urbano se inicia con la coleccin de bancos modulares de Ramn Benedito y Josep Llusc. En 1987 se ampliar con otra coleccin, coordinada por Xavier Gell, donde participarn los arquitectos: Jaume Bach, Gabi Mora, scar Tusquets, Elas Torres, Jos Antonio MartnezLapea, Josep Llus Canosa, Albert Viaplana y Helio Pin. A stos se sumarn, seguidamente, otros equipos, como Enric Sria y Jordi Garcs, Antonio Cruz y Antonio Ortiz. The production of street furniture is started with the collection of modular benches by Ramn Benedito and Josep Llusc. In 1987 production is extended with another collection, co-ordinated by Xavier Gell, and in which the architects Jaume Bach, Gabi Mora, scar Tusquets, Elas Torres, Jos Antonio Martnez-Lapea, Josep Llus Canosa, Albert Viaplana and Hlio Pin participate. Other teams such as Enric Soria and Jordi Garcs, and Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz later join them.

La proyeccin internacional de la compaa, presente desde su fundacin en algunos mercados europeos, se intensica con la colaboracin con arquitectos de USA en algunos grandes proyectos en Arabia Saudi y Omn. La presencia internacional se incrementa hasta la actualidad, abarcando la Unin Europea, USA y Japn, entre otros. The international projection of the company, ever present in some European markets since its foundation, is intensied with the collaboration of architects from the USA in some large scale projects in Saudi Arabia and Oman. The international presence of the company continues to grow today as new areas of the European Union, the USA and Japan, among others, come to form part of the eld of operations of the company.
1992
La participacin en los grandes proyectos de arquitectura se conrma con las obras asociadas a los Juegos Olmpicos de Barcelona 92. El Palau Sant Jordi de Arata Isozaki, el Anillo Olmpico de Correa, Mil, Margarit y Buixad; el Palau Nacional de Gae Aulenti y los pavimentos y mobiliario de las nuevas zonas reurbanizadas de la ciudad. La trayectoria histrica de la compaa es premiada con el Premio Nacional de Diseo en este mismo ao. The companys participation in large scale architectural projects is conrmed with projects related to the Barcelona Olympic Games of 1992: the Palau Sant Jordi by Arata Isozaki; the Olympic Ring by Correa, Mil, Margarit and Buixad; the Palau Nacional by Gae Aulenti and the street paving and street furniture in the new re-urbanized areas of the city. The historical trajectory of the company is recognized when it is awarded the National Prize for design in the same year.

La implicacin de Escofet en el mundo del diseo y de las nuevas disciplinas como el paisajismo, es premiada con El Delta de Oro del Adi-FAD por Lungo Mare, de Enric Miralles y Benedetta Tagliabue. The commitment of Escofet to the world of design and new disciplines, such as landscapism, is rewarded with the Delta de Oro prize from the Adi-FAD by Lungo Mare, of Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue.

La presencia en los nuevos espacios de paisaje urbano queda plasmada en el Frum de las Culturas 2004, a travs de elementos de paisaje como el Xurret de balos y Herreros y todos los elementos urbanos para la Explanada del Frum de Elas Torres y J. Antonio Martnez-Lapea. The presence of new urban landscape spaces is converted into a tangible reality in the Forum of the Cultures in 2004 through landscape elements such as the Xurret by balos and Herreros and all the urban elements for the esplanade of the Forum by Elas Torres and Jos Antonio Martnez-Lapea.

La participacin de Escofet en los eventos nacionales como la celebracin de la 32 Copa Amrica en Valencia avala la capacidad de la compaa en el desarrollo y la produccin de una amplia gama de productos en colaboracin con el diseador, desde la fase creativa hasta su ejecucin tcnica. Piezas de sencilla manufactura o elementos singulares de alto valor aadido en los que se ha aplicado la mejor tecnologa de produccin. The participation of Escofet in the national events as the celebration of 32nd Americas Cup in Valencia guarantees the capacity of the Company in the development and the production of an ample product range in collaboration with the designer, from the creative phase to its technical execution. Pieces of simple manufacture or singular elements of high added value in which the best technology of production has been applied.

BUILDING TO MEASURE Escofet 1886 is a company with a long experience in the development of urban elements together with architects and designers. This selection of projects shows the capacity of the company in the development and production of a wide range of products. Escofet works with different materials (such as moulded cast stone, cast iron, stainless steel, Cor-Ten steel, wood...) and it researches and innovates to achieve the best quality in product nishing, textures, colours and use of new materials. Escofet works together with the designer from the creative phase to the technical execution of any kind of product, ranging from pieces of simple making, such as steps, curbs or ornaments to more unique elements of high added value on which the best production technology has been applied. Con motivo de la celebracin de la 32 edicin de la Copa Amrica, se ha construido sobre la drsena del puerto de Valencia, el edicio Veles e Vents, segn proyecto de David Chippereld y Fermn Vzquez (B720). La obra incluye un edicio principal de invitados, un edicio de aparcamiento en continuidad y la zona del parque. Escofet ha prefabricado unos cerramientos de seccin dentada de hormign moldeado de color gris oscuro, interrumpido con la incorporacin de escaleras de comunicacin entre la plataforma superior y el paseo paralelo al canal. Con el mismo material y acabado de los paneles tambin ha producido bancas SOCRATES, jardineras de gran volumen y ceniceros NET. La papelera BIN de acero Cor-Ten es el modelo instalado en todo el espacio exterior.

The Veles e Vents building was built on the dock of Valencia port on the occasion of the 32nd Americas Cup according to a project by David Chippereld and Fermn Vzquez (B720). The project includes a main building for guests, an adjacent car-park building and a park area. Escofet prefabricated some of the serrated-section sidings using dark-grey cast concrete, interrupted by the addition of stairways communicating the top plane with the promenade parallel to the canal. The same material and nish of the panels was also used to produce SOCRATES benches, large owerbeds and NET ashtrays. CorTen steel BIN litter bins are installed throughout the outdoor areas.

El espacio pblico de la manzana ocupada por la Torre de Gas Natural est organizado como un ujo que acompaa el volumen en voladizo soportado por las dos torres. ELEMENTOS ESPECIALES 1. BANCO Zig-zag Modular con seccin autoportante que se alinea ante las alfombras del pavimento Papallosa. 2. PAPALLOSA Pavimento grco que reproduce de forma abstracta la mariposa (papallona en cataln) logotipo de la empresa. Algunas de ellas son negras. 3. LMITE FUENTE de forma oblonga reproduce los pliegues de la piel que bordean el ojoque mira hacia el cielo y se recrea con la visin de la torre. 4. The public space of the block occupied by the Gas Natural companys Tower is organised as a ow accompanying the overhung volume held up by the two towers. HIGHLIGHTS 1. Zig-zag BENCH A modular, self-supporting feature, aligned with the carpets of the Papallosa ooring. 2. PAPALLOSA Graphic ooring featuring an abstract portrayal of the buttery (papallona in Catalan), which is the companys logo. Some are black. 3. FOUNTAIN EDGE with an oblong shape portraying the folds of the skin around the eye that looks skywards, delighting in the sight of the tower. 4. MARIPOSA KERB whose cross-section portrays the start of ight.

El concurso internacional convocado para la ampliacin del recinto de Fira de Barcelona, ganado por el arquitecto Toyo Ito, ha supuesto para Escofet una gran oportunidad para el desarrollo de nuevos elementos de paisaje que conjugan la naturaleza con la arquitectura de los pabellones. La luz y el agua como elementos vivos, la bsqueda de la ingravidez, constantes en la obra del arquitecto, se materializan en los alcorques 1 , metfora lquida de gran plasticidad, el conjunto de bancas ola 2 que emergen y se sumergen en el pavimento, los surtidores orales 3 en la fuente monumental y los bancos Naguisa 4 , instalados enfrente del acceso principal del recinto Ferial, en clara alegora a las curvas espumosas que al mar deja sobre la arena.
The international contest summoned for the extension of the enclosure of Fira de Barcelona, gained by Toyo Ito, architect, has supposed for Escofet a great opportunity for the development of new elements of landscape that conjugate the nature with the architecture of the pavilions. The light and the water like alive elements, the search of the weightlessness, constants in the work of the architect, are materialized in 1 tree surrounds, liquid metaphor of great plasticity, the set of banca ola 2 that emerge and they submerge in the pavement, oral jets 3 in the monumental fountain and the Naguisa banks 4 , installed the main access before of fairground, in clear allegory to the frothy curves that to the sea leaves on the sand.

La transformacin urbanstica de la zona del Frum de las Culturas 2004 de Barcelona genera nuevos lugares y paisajes para la ciudad. Espacios pblicos de gran escala que se articulan a lo largo del litoral Nordeste: la Explanada del Frum, el Parc dels Auditoris, la zona de Baos, el Port de Sant Adri y el Parc de la Pau; espacios que conforman una variedad de situaciones donde la relacin con el mar y con los nuevos equipamientos e instalaciones va deniendo el carcter de cada zona. Elementos como Hebi, Murllum, Odesa y Xurret System nacen con la capacidad de congurar el espacio que colonizan. Elementos innovadores que condensan la energa de los nuevos lugares del paisaje urbano y que coexisten con elementos annimos que aportan la materialidad a lo proyectado (escaleras, gradas, bordillos...). Estos elementos especiales coexisten con standards como las columnas Kanya, la papelera Pedra Negra, la fuente Lama, los Bolardos, la Sillarga: elementos de larga serie que demuestran su universalidad y actualidad.

The urban transformation of the area of the Forum of the Cultures in 2004 in Barcelona generated new spaces and new landscapes for the city. Large scale public spaces were formed along the coast to the north east of the city: the Esplanade of the Forum, the Auditorium Park, the bathing zone, Sant Adri port and the Parc de la Pau. All of these spaces gave rise to a variety of situations in which the relationship between the sea, the new equipment and installations would dene the character of each zone. Elements such as Hebi, Murllum, Odesa and the Xurret System are born with the capacity to shape the space where they take hold. They are innovative elements that condense the energy of the new urban landscape spaces and which co-exist alongside anonymous elements with which the projects are materialized (stairs, tiers, kerbs..). These special elements are alongside standard ones such as the Kanya columns, the Pedra Negra waste paper container, the Lama fountain, the Bollards, the Sillarga: they are long series elements. Their universality is manifest, and it is clear they are designs of today.

ESCOFET es una empresas que ha sabido madurar su lnea de producto e integrar el diseo como elemento fundamental en el proceso de innovacin y creacin de un catlogo de elementos urbanos - actualmente una de las mejores colecciones de entre las empresas del sector. Generalmente las empresas editoras de elementos urbanos, a falta de detectar nuevas necesidades, buscan respuestas heterogneas a las necesidades de siempre. Bien sea variando su materialidad, bien su proceso de construccin. El resultado son catlogos cada vez ms amplios con piezas gurativamente distintas pero con preocupaciones comunes. El devenir de los acontecimientos nos impulsa irremediablemente hacia una creciente especializacin en la que las compaas permutan el papel de meros suministradores de elementos urbanos por el de consultores especialistas en el desarrollo de proyectos de creciente complejidad. En esta situacin, ESCOFET se sita en la interseccin arquitecto-proyecto-producto, con la mejor ventaja competitiva para gestionar estos proyectos y estandarizar piezas singulares, por complejas que sean, en elementos de uso universal. ESCOFET is among the companies that have succeeded in bringing their product range to maturity and in integrating design as a fundamental component in the innovation and creation process for a catalogue of urban furniture one of the best selections to be found now among companies in this sector.. Generally speaking, when companies producing urban furniture nd that they cannot discern new needs, they seek heterogeneous responses to the customary requirements, either by changing material aspects or changing the building process. The result is items that are guratively different but with common concerns, and brand catalogues increasingly broad in scope. The onward march of events necessarily impels us towards a growing specialisation where manufacturers are moving from being mere suppliers of urban furniture to acting as specialist consultants in developing projects of ever-rising complexity. Faced with this situation, ESCOFET stands where the architect, project and product come together, with the best competitive advantage for handling those projects and standardising individual pieces, however complex, to make them items for universal use. To grow in this context of a homogeneous market, it is essential to work in a multi-disciplinary way with external teams of architects, designers and artists.
