UNIVERSITY HALL
Built in 1971 with additional self-contained units added in the late 80s, Uni Hall is home to 240 students. The Hall provides an environment which fosters friendship, independence, cultural and social acceptance, equality, a team spirit and a strong sense of community across many diverse nationalities. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided Monday to Friday, including vegetarian options. Uni Hall celebrates academic, sporting and personal achievement, and encourages individual personal growth and leadership. Sporting matches, barbecues, themed dinners and regular activities run by residents foster great leaders and supporters in the community. Eleven Residential Tutors provide academic and pastoral support and undertake an out of hours security and administrative role in addition to facilitating and supporting student activities and lifestyles. The Tutors arrange social activities for their specic areas, assist with formal Hall events and provide academic assistance, pastoral care and personal support to all residents. An elected House Committee in the Hall strengthens the sense of the Hall community through the organisation of many inter-collegiate sporting competitions and a wide range of social and cultural events throughout the year. First year students are recommended to choose the more collegiate environment of the Hall for at least their rst year experience, before considering moving to the Village for a more independent lifestyle.

DEIRDRE JORDAN VILLAGE

The 80 units in the Deirdre Jordan Village are fully equipped self-contained living spaces providing an independent life-style for a culturally diverse population, within a strong community setting. Built between 1985 and 2004, the older townhouses accommodate 2 or 3 residents whilst the ash new units house 5 residents. Residents in the Village are able to access support from senior and postgraduate students employed as live-in Residential Coordinators. The focus of the Residential Coordinator is to build and strengthen community links throughout the Village. Residential Coordinators take a proactive role in engaging with residents and organising events which provide opportunities for Village residents to develop friendships, interests, skills and foster inter-cultural knowledge and respect for diversity in the Village. Residential Coordinators may also assist with any house-hold disputes which may arise. Flinders Housing recognises the different needs of students at different stages of study. Specic townhouses or units are available for postgraduate and senior students or for students requiring single-sex accommodation due to cultural or religious requirements. Nevertheless all residents are part of the Village and are invited to participate in community events with a focus on diversity and inclusiveness. Residents have the opportunity to participate in community building activities as well as enjoying the greater privacy and self-sufciency that comes with independent living.
