G6.3.4 List ways people view their own communities, i.e., a ranching community, a tourist destination.

Student-Friendly Standards G6.3.4 I can write a postcard using creativity and information I gathered about my state.

E. Procedure: 1. To review maps and different terrains, the teacher will display the Nevada state map on the Elmo. 2. Explain that each state has different characteristics such as tourist attractions (Las Vegas has the Strip, Ohio has Cedar Point amusement park, and so on.) 3. The teacher will explain that the students will use the information they have gathered from the computer lab the past couple of days to create a short greeting from their state or a city in their state. 4. Students will each get a postcard from the states they have been working on and start writing their greeting using famous landmarks and population on one side and a picture of their state/city on the other side of the card. 5. Students will work on their postcards individually.

6. CLOSURE: Students will turn in their postcards to the teacher who will then distribute them around the classroom, so different students can gain a sense of understanding different states. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? The students finished postcard will serve as a measure of understanding. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. This is a fun project for students to use their prior knowledge that they already gathered and use creativity to make this project their own. The project is more to measure if the students were able to effectively research information relating to their state. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think it will be easy for students to grasp the concept of a postcard and understanding that we are writing as if we are in that particular state. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? It might actually be a bit hard for some students to understand how to write a postcard greeting with the date, greeting, body and closing with signature. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I would love for students to visit other students postcards and pick a state they would like to live in or visit. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I would have a group in the back to work on formatting a postcard with concentrating on the components of a short note that would be on a postcard. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I actually really liked this lesson plan and dont think I would change any part of it. 1.

6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? I dont think there was a difficult part for me while I was working on this lesson plan. I had an idea of how I wanted this lesson plan to go and I think I was able to accomplish what I had in mind.
