Mr. Patrick Hill, Principal Danielle Walden, GSU Media Specialist Candidate 4/26/2013 Georgia DOE 2012 Library Media Program Evaluation

Mr. Hill, I would like to take this time to summarize my findings from the Library Media Program Evaluation I conducted as part of my course work. These findings are a way of showing you how the Media Program is operating and benefitting our school. I have included a few suggestions for the items marked basic or proficient as a way that we can move the Media Program forward. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Danielle Walden Georgia Southern University Media Specialist Candidate daniellew@strl.info Standard 7b. If base size or larger: A school system shall employ a full-time Library Media Specialist for each base size school or larger. (Base size defined by unweighted FTE: K-5, 450; 68, 624; 9-12, 970) (CGB, 160-5-1-.22) Rating Basic Suggestion Although there is a full time media specialist and a full time tech liaison employed in the media center, I feel that the media center would benefit from a part time media assistant that can cover some of the MSs time or help out in the Media Center so the MS can perform Media Center duties that require full time attention (cataloging, processing, collaboration, etc.) I feel that teachers and the MS would benefit from having an online source of scheduling time to come into the Media Center. Younger grades have a set story time, but sometimes teachers cancel without warning. If there were an online system of scheduling utilized said teacher should note

8. There shall be a plan for flexibly scheduled library media center access for students and teachers in groups or as individuals simultaneously throughout each instructional day. Accessibility shall refer to the facility, the staff, and the resources and shall be based on instructional need.

April 26, 2013 (IFBD 160-4-4-.01) it online so if another teacher needs the library they can benefit from that open spot. I feel that the Media Center would benefit from having a classroom sized lab within it space. If that could not be arranged, then I suggest at minimum a classroom sized set of tablet computers for students to benefit from instructional time in the media center.

Based on FTE, the library media center exceeds minimum square footage requirements and is large enough to accommodate large and small groups and individuals working simultaneously. Shelving, storage areas, and electric wiring meet the needs of the collection.
