As part of TNRDs ongoing changes towards more environmentally-sound ways of solid waste management, the Lower Nicola Eco-Depot will open on April 30. The Lower Nicola landfill will now be not open to the public, and the new ecodepot facility will be housed on the same site as the landfill, 2348 Woodward Rd. The 1-stop drop for all waste & recyclable materials allows residents to separate recyclables and reusable materials from the waste stream before disposing of the residual in large bins destined for the landfill. The new facilities employ a weightbased strategy to record waste and recycling, replacing the volume-based system previously used at TNRD landfills andtransfer stations. Users will be charged a $60-per-tonne disposal fee waste with a minimum charge set at $1. Tipping fees can only be paid with debit, credit cards or TNRD Eco-Cards. Cash will not be accepted at the Lower Nicola Eco-Depot. The Lower Nicola Eco-Depot has new hours: Monday 8am-noon,Tuesday noon to 4pm & Wed-Sun 8am-4pm.
