Instructor’s Profile : Prof Chowdari Prasad is a Post Graduate in Commerce from Osmania
University, Hyderabad. He is a Certificated Associate of Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (CAIIB) and
holds other professional qualifications viz., Certificate in Industrial Finance (IIBF), Diplomas in Training &
Development (ISTD), Merchant Banking, Industrial Relations, Computer Programming, etc. His overall career
spans for 38 years beginning from April 1971. He has 25 years work experience in Banking (Andhra Bank, State
Bank of India and Vysya Bank Leasing Ltd) in various capacities in Senior Management in Operations (Branches)
and at Corporate Offices. Besides, he was Vice President in a 100% EOU in Hyderabad for three years.

Between 1999 and 2006, Prof Prasad was with T A Pai Management Institute, Manipal for over seven years as
Associate Professor. At Alliance, he is a Professor in Finance & Registrar since September, 2006. He taught
various courses including Entrepreneurial Finance besides handling academic administration. He has presented /
published Articles and Papers in the areas of Banking, Financial Services and Management. His current areas of
interests for research are Management of Indian Banks, Private Equity, Micro Finance and Entrepreneurship.

Course Overview:

The study of entrepreneurship is of high importance today, not only because it helps entrepreneurs better fulfill
their business goals but also adds economic contribution by the new ventures. More than increasing national
income by creating new jobs, entrepreneurship acts as a positive force in economic growth by serving as the
bridge between innovation and marketplace. Entrepreneurs like to learn technical and business skills, and to
serve as major link in the process of innovation, development, and economic growth. .The study of
entrepreneurship and education of potential entrepreneurs are essential part of a country’s economic well being.

The course would cover the issues like creating and starting the ventures, the business plan and wealth creation.
It will also address the aspects of financing the venture, sources of capital and venture capital. The management
of venture, critical successful factors of competitive advantage and the legal issues of enterprises will also be
discussed with some live examples of Entrepreneurs from India and abroad. Their profiles and the National
Knowledge Commission’s Report on Entrepreneurship in India – August 2008 would be dealt with in detail.

Course Expectations:

It is important that all the students participate on a regular basis. Accordingly, they must come to the class well
prepared, having read the assigned reading before hand, analyzed the discussion questions for the assigned
cases, and keep abreast of current business news. Class participation is part of the grading. Innovative methods
of learning like role play, book reviews and discussions of market developments from financial news papers,
books, internet and television media would be encouraged for better learning and enriching the course delivery.

Session 5-6 Project Management : The entrepreneurial Ideas; Concepts of Projects Classification; Project
Identification-Formulation-Design and Network Analysis-Report-Appraisal etc.

Session 7-8 Financial Analysis – Ratios – Investment

Session 9-10 Sources of Finance – Development Finance, Project Financing, Institutional Finance, Consultants

Session 11-12 Marketing Channel: Methods, Channels, Institutions and Assistance; and Quality Standards

Session 13 Small Industrial Unit: Setting up; Location, steps, Type of Organisation; Incentives and Exports

Session 14-15 Problems of Entrepreneurs : Sickness and Remedies; National Knowledge Commission Report
