DANGER INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION - AVOID DIRECT EXPOSURE TO THE BEAM

Do not stare into the infrared laser beam. Do not look into the infrared laser beam through binoculars or telescopes. Do not point the infrared laser beam at mirror like surfaces. Do not shine the infrared laser beam into other individuals' eyes.

WARNING Make sure the weapon is CLEAR and on SAFE before proceeding. WARNING RISK OF DETECTION BY ENEMY To reduce the risk of detection by an enemy using Night Vision Devices, avoid prolonged activation of the AN/PEQ-2A. WARNING The infrared beam is more detectable to an enemy using Night Vision Devices when used in smoke, fog and rain. Avoid prolonged activation of the AN/PEQ-2A in these conditions. WARNING Do not store the AN/PEQ-2A with batteries installed. CAUTION Do not overadjust the adjusters.

SECTION II. EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION


2.1. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The AN/PEQ-2A is a Class IIIb laser that emits a highly collimated beam of infrared light for precise aiming of the weapon as well as a separate infrared illumination beam with adjustable focus. A safety block is provided for training purposes which limits the operator from selecting the high power modes. Both beams can be zeroed to the weapon and each other. The beams can be operated individually or in combination. The AN/PEQ-2A is for use with Night Vision Devices and can be used as either a handheld illuminator/pointer or can be weapon mounted with included brackets and accessory mounts. In weapon mounted mode, the AN/PEQ-2A can be used to accurately direct fire as well as illuminate and designate targets.

AN/PEQ-2A Assembly The AN/PEQ-2A Assembly is a compact, lightweight advanced electro-optical assembly which provides both a highly collimated beam of infrared energy for weapon aiming and an adjustable focus infrared beam for target illumination. Rail Grabber Mounting Bracket The Rail Grabber enables the AN/PEQ-2A Assembly to be attached to all standard weapon mounting rails as defined by MIL-STD-1913. Neck Cord The neck cord is used for portability of the AN/PEQ-2A. With the neck cord the operator can secure the AN/PEQ-2A to his wrist or around his neck. Carrying Bag The AN/PEQ-2A is supplied with a carrying bag. The bag neatly holds all components and is easily attached to the web belt. Cable Switch, 12 inch The 12 inch Cable Switch provides fingertip control of the AN/PEQ-2A using a 2 inch pressure pad. Manual The manual details operation, maintenance and general information on the AN/PEQ-2A.

Batteries (2 AA) Two AA batteries are used as a power supply for operating the AN/PEQ-2A. The use of high quality batteries is recommended. Strap, Retainer The retainer strap provides a convenient means of attaching the cable switch to the weapon. Cable Switch, 20 inch The 20 inch Cable Switch provides fingertip control of the AN/PEQ-2A using a rubber domed push button.

10) Bracket Adapter The Bracket Adapter provides compatibility between the TPIAL and the mounting brackets used on the M2, M60 and M136 (AT4) weapons. 11) Training Extender (Army only) The Training Extender provides compatibility between the TPIAL and the M4/M16A2 mounting bracket when using the MILES training system. 12) M4/M16A2 Bracket Assy (Army Only) The M4/M16A2 Bracket Assy enables TPIAL to be attached to the M4 Carbine and the M16A2 Rifle. 13) M16A2 Bracket Assy (Marines Only) The M16A2 Bracket Assy enables TPIAL to be attached to the M16A2 Rifle.

SECTION III OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS


3.1 GENERAL This section contains a description of battery installation, safety block installation, the button switch, the cable switch, the mode switch, and elevation/windage adjusters.

3.2 AN/PEQ-2A CONTROLS AND INDICATORS WARNING Do not store the AN/PEQ-2A with batteries installed. a. Battery Installation Unscrew the battery caps and install two AA batteries. Orient the batteries as indicated by the markings on the AN/PEQ-2A body. Re-install battery caps. Hand tighten to fully secure caps onto housing and achieve oring squeeze.

b. Safety Block The safety block installed in the Training Mode (blue side up) prevents the operator from accessing the noneyesafe modes (AIM HI, DUAL LO/HI, DUAL HI/HI).See Figure 3-1a.

c. Mode Selector The Mode Selector is used to set the mode in which the AN/PEQ-2A will operate when the cable switch button or push button is depressed. The Mode Selector has 6 positions. Positions 3, 4 & 5 can only be accessed with the Safety Block installed in the Tactical Mode (see Figure 3-1b). Table 3-1 provides details of the Mode Selector switch functions. NOTE Safety Block should not be removed from TPIAL. The Safety Block is removed from the following Figure for clarity purposes only.

KNOB POSITION 0 OFF OPERATION The AN/PEQ-2A will not operate REMARKS When underwater, the mode switch should be OFF to preclude water pressure on the button switch from inadvertently turning ON the unit. Low power is useful to reduce night vision device blooming of the aiming spot on close targets. It is also useful for training because the beam power meets the criteria of an eye-safe laser. Low power aiming and illuminating is useful to reduce the effects of blooming when engaging targets at close range. It is also useful for training because the beam power meets the criteria of an eye-safe laser. Hi power is useful for aiming or pointing at distant targets. The DUAL mode enables a target to be illuminated and fired upon using an aiming beam. The illuminator operates at full power in all dual modes of operation. The DUAL mode enables a target to be illuminated and fired upon using an aiming beam. The illuminator operates at full power in all dual modes of operation.

d. Button Switch The integral button switch is used when the AN/PEQ2A is hand held. Pressing the Button Switch operates the AN/PEQ-2A in the operational mode set by the mode selector (see paragraph c). When the button is released, the AN/PEQ-2A turns off. A green LED (Figure 3-3) is incorporated into the body of the AN/PEQ-2A to indicate that the AN/PEQ-2A is ON. Whenever AN/PEQ-2A is activated the green LED will light and will stay lit until the Button or Cable Switch is released. If continuous operation of the AN/PEQ-2A is desired, pressing the Button Switch twice in rapid succession will latch the AN/PEQ-2A ON. The AN/PEQ-2A will remain ON until the push button is pressed a third time.

e. Cable Switch NOTE The TPIAL comes with a jack plug installed in the remote cable jack port which must be removed before intalling a cable switch The Cable Switch is used when the AN/PEQ-2A is mounted on a weapon. The cable switch plugs into the back of the AN/PEQ-2A assembly as shown in Figure 3-4. Hook and loop fastner tape (Velcro) is provided to secure the cable switch button or pad to the weapon. Pressing the button or pad at the end of the cable switch causes the AN/PEQ-2A to turn on in the operational mode selected by the mode selector switch. When the button is released, the AN/PEQ-2A turns off. If continuous operation of the AN/PEQ-2A is desired, then pressing the Button Switch twice in rapid succession will latch the AN/PEQ-2A ON. The AN/PEQ-2A will remain ON until the push button is pressed a third time. When the cable switch plug is installed in the AN/PEQ2A, it automatically locks in place. To remove the cable switch, pull back on the plugs sleeve and pull the plug out. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE PLUG BY PULLING ON THE CABLE.

f. Focus Knob The focus knob shown in Figure 3-5 is used to vary the beam spread of the illumination beam based on the range and size of the area to be illuminated. Focus Knob

g. Lens Caps Lens Cap, Illuminator The Illuminator Lens Cap, shown in Figure 3-6, contains a diffuser which enables the AN/PEQ-2A illuminator laser to emit in a 45 degree cone (10 feet at 10 feet). To use the lens cap, remove it from its stored location on the side of the AN/PEQ-2A by pulling it out and over the front of the focus knob so that its stretched snug and firmly in place. Lens Cap, Aiming The Aiming Lens Cap, shown in Figure 3-6, contains a Neutral Density Filter that enables the AN/PEQ-2A aiming laser to be operated in low power and is useful during zeroing to eliminate blooming effects on the target. To use the neutral density lens cap, remove it from its stored location on the side of the AN/PEQ-2A by pulling it out and over the front of the aiming beam so that its stretched snug and firmly in place. When the AN/PEQ-2A is not in use, it should be stored with the lens caps over the respective output ports.

Figure 3-7 Elevation/Windage Adjusters for both Aiming and Illumination Beams. The AN/PEQ-2A is equipped with elevation/windage adjusters for zeroing the Aiming Beam and Illumination Beam. See Figure 3-7. The AN/PEQ-2A adjusters move the beams in true horizontal and vertical directions. When zeroing the AN/PEQ-2A it is best to zero the aiming beam to the weapon and then align the illumination beam to the aiming beam. Table 3-2 indicates the direction of adjuster rotation and resultant shot group movement for zeroing the aiming beam to the weapon when the TPIAL is top mounted. Table 32a indicates the direction of adjuster rotation and resultant shot group movement for zeroing the aiming beam to the weapon when the TPIAL is left side mounted. Table 3-3 indicates the direction of adjuster

rotation and resultant illumination beam movement for centering the illumination area on the aiming beam when the TPIAL is top mounted. Table 3-3a indicates the direction of adjuster rotation and resultant illumination beam movement for centering the illumination area on the aiming beam when the TPIAL is left side mounted.

4.1a M16A2 Mounting Procedure (Figure 4-2) The TPIAL mounts on the M16A2 rifle using M16A2 (NSN 5855-01-446-9545) or M4/M16A2 (NSN 5340-01390-3812) Mounting Brackets. WARNING Make sure the weapon is CLEAR and on SAFE before proceeding. NOTE Only Small Arms Repairman MOS 2111 (Marine), 45B (Army) are authorized to install the bracket (steps 1 through 4). (1) Completely disassemble bracket assembly (see Figure 4-1a) using socket head screw key (3 mm allen wrench) being careful not to lose any parts.

(2) Remove top and bottom handguards from rifle. (3) Align bracket on barrel ensuring that the notch in the underside of bracket fits over the gas tube and locating arm touches inside surface of handguard cap (see Figure 4-1b). NOTE Ensure there is equal space between the bracket and bracket caps while tightening mounting screws. Failure to fully tighten screws may cause zero retention problems.
Verify that there is equal spacing on left and right sides of these gap areas

(4) Secure bracket to rifle barrel with bracket caps, lock washers and mounting screws. Tighten with socket head screw key (3 mm allen wrench). CAUTION Make sure bracket is installed properly before reinstalling handguards. Improperly installed brackets could cause damage to gas tube or handguard . (5) Re-install top and bottom handguards to rifle. NOTE Failure to fully tighten rail mounting screws and thumbscrew may cause zero retention problems. (6) Attach mounting rail to bracket posts per Figure 42. Secure with 2 hexhead countersink screws. Tighten screws with 3 mm socket head screw key. Completely tighten front screw (closest to muzzle) first before fully tightening rear screw. (7) Position the TPIAL on the mounting rail as shown in Figure 4-2 and secure with thumbscrew. Use slot on thumbscrew to fully secure TPIAL to bracket rail. (8) Install the remote switch in a convenient location. Use the retainer straps to secure the remote switch cable to the weapon.

4.1b M4/M4A1 Mounting Procedure (Figure 4-3) The TPIAL mounts on the M4 Carbine using the M4/M16A2 Mounting Bracket (NSN 5340-01-3903812). The mounting procedures are identical to the mounting procedures provided in paragraph 4.1a for the M16A2 with the following exception: The top Inner heat shield must be removed from handguard, modified and re-installed in upper hanguard prior to completing bracket installation. NOTE The following step needs to be performed at an Intermediate Maintenance Location (1) Mark location on top inner heat shield that interferes with bracket mounting posts and drill two (2) 3/8" diameter holes. Reinstall heat shield in upper handguard and verify that holes in heat shield line up with holes in handguard. (2) Complete the bracket installation and install TPIAL on M4/M16A2 mounting bracket per the procedures provided in paragraph 4.1a for the M16A2 and as shown in Figure 4-3.

4.1c M4 MWS Mounting Procedure (Figure 4-4) The TPIAL is mounted on the front left hand guard rail using the Insight Rail Grabber Bracket (NSN 5340-01458-0990). WARNING Make sure the weapon is CLEAR and on SAFE before proceeding. (1) Loosen the clamping knob on the rail grabber until the rail grabber has sufficient space to fit over the left side rail. NOTE The TPIAL rail grabber may be placed at whichever position is most convenient for the operator. If, however, the rail grabber is removed from the the rail the operator must take note of the position at which the device was zeroed and return the device to that same position in order to insure that zero is retained. NOTE Failure to fully tighten the Rail Grabber bracket and TPIAL thumbscrew may cause zero retention problems. (2) Position and tighten the Rail Grabber by turning the knob clockwise. Use the slot on the rail grabber mounting screw to fully secure the bracket to the rail.

(3) Mount the TPIAL to the rail grabber using the thumbscrew as shown in Figure 4-4. Use the slot on the thumbscrew to fully secure the TPIAL to the bracket. (4) Install the remote switch in a convenient location. Use the retainer straps to secure the remote switch cable to the weapon.

(1) Mount the rail grabber to the TPIAL using the thumbscrew as shown. Use the slot on the TPIAL thumbscrew to fully secure the TPIAL to the bracket. (2) Loosen the clamping knob on the rail grabber until the rail grabber has sufficient space to fit over the left side rail. NOTE The TPIAL rail grabber may be placed at whichever position is most convenient for the operator. 4.1d M249 SAW Mounting Procedure (Figure 4-7) The TPIAL mounts on the top of the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) using the AN/PVS-4 Mounting Bracket (NSN 3040-01-233-0352) and Bracket Adapter (NSN 5340-01-362-9873). WARNING Make sure the weapon is CLEAR and on SAFE before proceeding. NOTE Failure to fully tighten the AN/PVS-4 Mounting Screw and TPIAL Thumbscrew may cause zero retention problems. (1) Secure the AN/PVS-4 Mounting Bracket to the M249 per the instructions provided in the the AN/PVS-4 Technical Manual. Verify that the bracket is properly installed. The bracket should not move when shaken by hand when properly installed on the SAW. (2) Secure Bracket Adapter to AN/PVS-4 Mounting Bracket using AN/PVS-4 Mounting Screw. (3) Position the AN/PEQ-2A on the bracket adapter. Tighten the thumbscrew clockwise to secure the AN/PEQ-2A. Use the slot on the TPIAL thumbscrew to fully secure the TPIAL to the bracket adapter.

(4) Install the remote switch in a convenient location. Use the retainer straps to secure the remote switch cable to the weapon.

The TPIAL mounts on the top of the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) that is equipped with a mounting rail using the Insight Rail Grabber Bracket (NSN 5340-01-458-0990). See Figure 4-8. 4.1f M60 Mounting Procedure (Figure 4-11) The AN/PEQ-2A mounts on the M60 Machine Gun using the M60 Mounting Bracket (NSN: 5855-01-0467272) and the Bracket Adapter (NSN: 5340-01-3629873). WARNING Make sure the weapon is CLEAR and on SAFE before proceeding. NOTE Failure to fully tighten the Mounting Bracket, Bracket Adapter or TPIAL thumbscrew may cause zero retention problems. (1) Remove the M60 hinge pin latch and hinge pin from the cover assembly. Place the pin latch in the aiming guides on the left side of the Mounting Bracket and press together (see Figure 4-10). (2) Place the Mounting Bracket on top of the feed tray cover so that the holes in the front of the bracket align with the cover assembly pin holes. (3) Insert the longer hinge pin supplied with the bracket through the bracket and cover assembly and secure by inserting the hinge pin latch. (4) Turning counter clockwise loosen the wing nuts on both leg clamps and position the leg clamps under the cover assembly. Secure the Mounting Bracket by tightening the wing nuts

firmly. The split washer should be next to the wing nut and the flat washer next to the bracket. (5) Place the Bracket Adapter in the AN/PEQ-2A mounting groove flush with the front of the AN/PEQ-2A. Tighten the thumbscrew clockwise. Use the slot provided on the TPIAL thumbscrew to fully secure the TPIAL to the bracket adapter. (6) Position the AN/PEQ-2A with Bracket Adapter onto the M60 Mounting Bracket mounting groove. Align the front edge of the Bracket Adapter and front edge of the groove. Tighten the lever screw assembly (see Figure 4-10). (7) Install the remote switch in a convenient location. Use the retainer straps to secure the remote switch cable to the weapon.

4.1g M2 Mounting Procedure (Figure 4-12) The AN/PEQ-2A is attached to the M2 Machine Gun using a Bracket Adapter (NSN: 5340-01-362-9873) and an M2 Mounting Bracket (NSN: 5855-01-045-5482). WARNING Make sure the weapon is CLEAR and on SAFE before proceeding. NOTE Failure to fully tighten the Mounting Bracket, Bracket Adapter or TPIAL thumbscrew may cause zero retention problems. (1) Release the catch at the left side of the feed tray cover and raise the cover to the UP position. (2) Position the M2 Mounting Bracket assembly over the breech of the Machine Gun and slide it to the rear until it stops beyond the rear edge of the breech (see Figure 4-12). (3) Swing the three locking cams to the rear to secure the bracket to the weapon (side cam first, followed by two top locking cams). (4) Close the cartridge cover and secure with the catch. (5) Use the TPIAL thumbscrew to secure the Bracket Adapter to the underside of the AN/PEQ-2A. Use the slot on the TPIAL thumbscrew to fully secure the TPIAL to the bracket adapter.

(6) Place the Bracket Adapter into the M2 bracket mounting groove with the rear of the adapter flush with the rear of the bracket. Tighten the bracket's lever screw into the Bracket Adapter hole.

4.1h MK19 Mounting Procedure (Figure 4-13 ) The AN/PEQ-2A is attached to the MK19 Machine Gun using an Insight MK19 Mounting Bracket (ACS-200) and the Insight Rail Grabber Bracket (NSN 5340-01458-0990). WARNING Make sure the weapon is CLEAR and on SAFE before proceeding. NOTE Failure to fully tighten the Mounting Bracket, Rail Grabber Bracket or TPIAL thumbscrew may cause zero retention problems. (1) Position the Mounting Bracket assembly over the MK19 iron sight housing and slide it to the rear until it stops at the rear edge of the iron sight housing (see Figure 4-13). (2) Swing the three locking cams to the rear to secure the bracket to the weapon (side cam first, followed by two top locking cams). (3) Loosen the clamping knob on the rail grabber until the rail grabber has sufficient space to fit over the top rail.

WARNING Make sure the weapon is CLEAR and on SAFE before proceeding. (1) Mount brackets to the M16A2, M4/M4A1 or M4 MWS per instructions provided in paragraphs 4.1a, 4.1b or 4.1c, respectively. NOTE Failure to fully tighten the Training Extender Thumbwheel Screw and TPIAL thumbscrew may cause zero retention problems. (2) Attach Training Extender to appropriate brackets as shown in Figures 4-14a and 4-14b and securely tighten using thumbwheel screw. (3) Mount the TPIAL to the Training Extender Bracket using the thumbscrew as shown in Figure 4-14. Use the slot on the thumbscrew to fully secure the TPIAL to the bracket.

SECTION V ZEROING PROCEDURES


5.1 This section provides instructions for zeroing the AN/PEQ-2A on a 25 meter range. The instructions include procedures on how to create offset targets for use in zeroing the AN/PEQ-2A for a variety of weapons using standard 25 meter Zeroing Targets (NSN 692001-395-2949). 5.2 Zero Preset The AN/PEQ-2A incorporates a unique zero preset feature which enables the aiming and illumination beams to be nearly zeroed when the AN/PEQ-2A is initially attached to the weapon. To establish this zero preset, rotate each adjuster clockwise to its end of travel. Then rotate it back 5.5 turns and align the white dot on the adjuster with the center of the front adjuster flange (pictured below). Caution, do not overadjust.

5.3 ZEROING ON A 25 METER RANGE This procedure is used to zero the TPIAL to the following weapons for the distances listed in Table 5-1. NOTE Failure to fully tighten the mounting brackets and TPIAL thumbscrew may cause zero retention problems. Confirm that equipment is tight prior to zeroing. (1) On a 25 meter M16A2 zeroing target mark the designated strike point and designated strike zone as shown on the following pages based on the weapon you are using. (2) Mount the target on an E silhouette or other suitable surface at 25 meters. (3) Set the adjusters to their zero preset position as described in paragraph 5.2. (4) Mount the AN/PEQ-2A to your weapon as described in SECTION IV. (5) Turn the aiming beam on in the low power setting (AIM LO). Install Aiming Side Lens Cap with Neutral Density Filter to eliminate excessive blooming. In high light condition, use AIM HI. (6) While looking through your Night Vision Device, press the cable switch button to activate the aiming beam and aim center of mass. (7) Fire a 3 round shot group and note the center of the shot group relative to the designated strike point.

Note Refer to Tables 3-2 or 3-2a for adjuster rotation and resultant direction of shot group movement. Each adjuster click moves the strike point one square on the M16A2 25 meter zeroing target. (8) Adjust the aiming beam adjusters to move the center of the shot group to the designated strike point. (9) Fire another 3 round shot group and again observe the center of the new shot group relative to the designated strike point. (10) When 2 out of 3 rounds are in the designated strike zone you are zeroed. (11) Once the aiming beam is zeroed, rotate the selector knob to the DUAL LO, DUAL LO/HI or DUAL HI/HI mode to observe both aiming and illumination beams. Rotate the illumination beam adjusters (Refer to Tables 3-3 or 3-3a) to align the illumination beam with the aiming beam.

SECTION VI. MAINTENANCE


6.1 Clean the AN/PEQ-2A by flushing with water and wiping with a soft cloth. Such cleaning should be done whenever the AN/PEQ-2A becomes dirty or after exposure to salt water. To clean the aiming and illumination beam windows, wipe using a soft cloth with clean water, alcohol, or general purpose window cleaner. Prior to use under water, inspect the O-ring seals in the battery caps to make sure they are free of sand or dirt particles. Thoroughly clean the O-rings, battery caps and the back of the battery compartment which seals against the O-ring. If the O-ring becomes cut, nicked, or dried out, the battery cap should be replaced. If the battery cap is bent, or scratched in the O-ring seating area, it should be replaced. Periodically lubricate the O-ring with fluorinated grease. A list of repair parts is contained in Appendix C. All repair parts can be installed at the operator or unit level. Special tools or equipment are not required for maintaining the AN/PEQ-2A.

APPENDIX B MAINTENANCE ALLOCATION CHART SECTION I. INTRODUCTION


NOTE THIS SECTION IS FOR ARMY ONLY B-1. General This appendix provides a summary of the maintenance operations for the AN/PEQ-2A. It authorizes levels of maintenance for specific maintenance functions on repairable items and components and the tools and equipment required to perform each function. This appendix may be used as an aid in planning maintenance operations. B-2. Maintenance Function Maintenance functions will be limited to and defined as follows: a. Inspect. To determine the serviceability of an item by comparing its physical, mechanical, and/or electrical characteristics with established standards through examination.

b. Test. To verify serviceability and to detect incipient failure by measuring the mechanical or electrical characteristics of an item and comparing those characteristics with prescribed standards. c. Service. Operations required periodically to keep an item in proper operating condition, i.e., to clean (decontaminate), to preserve, to drain, to paint, or to replenish fuel, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, or compressed air supplies. d. Replace. The act of substituting a serviceable like type part, subassembly, or module (component or assembly) for an unserviceable counterpart. e. Repair. The application of maintenance services (inspect, test, service, adjust, align, calibrate, replace) or other maintenance actions (welding, grinding, riveting, straightening, facing, remachining, or resurfacing) to restore serviceability to an item by correcting specific damage, fault, malfunction, or failure in a part, subassembly, module (component or subassembly), end item, or system. B-3. Column Entries a. Column 1, Group Number. Column 1 lists group numbers, the purpose of which is to identify components, assemblies, subassemblies, and modules with the next higher assembly.

b. Column 2, Component/Assembly. Column 2 contains the names of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and the modules for which maintenance is authorized. c. Column 3, Maintenance Functions. Column 3 lists the functions to be performed on the item listed in column 2. When items are listed without maintenance functions, it is solely for purposes of having the group numbers in the MAC and RPSTL coincide. d. Column 4, Maintenance Level. Column 4 specifies, by the listing of a "work time" figure in the appropriate subcolumn(s), the lowest level of maintenance authorized to perform the function listed in column 3. This figure represents the active time required to perform that maintenance function at the indicated level of maintenance. If the number or complexity of the tasks within the listed maintenance function vary at different maintenance levels, appropriate "work time" figures will be shown for each level. The number of task hours specified by the "work time" figure represents the average time required to restore an item (assembly, subassembly, component, module, end item or system) to a serviceable condition under typical field operating conditions. This time includes preparation time, troubleshooting time, and quality assurance/ quality control time in addition to the time required to perform the specific tasks identified for the

maintenance function authorized in the maintenance allocation chart. Scope This manual lists and authorizes spares and repair parts; special tools; special test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE); and other special support equipment required for performance of Unit Maintenance of the AN/PEQ-2A. It authorizes the requisitioning, issue, and disposition of spares, repair parts and special tools as indicated by the Source, Maintenance and Recoverability (SMR) codes. C-2. General This Repair Parts and Special Tool List is divided into the following sections: a. Section II. Repair Parts List. A list of spares and repair parts authorized by this RPSTL for use in the performance of maintenance. The list also includes parts which must be removed for replacement of the authorized parts. Cannibalization or controlled exchange, when authorized, may be used as a source of supply for items with the above source, codes, except for those source coded "XA" or those aircraft support items restricted by requirements of AR 750-1. (2) Maintenance Code. Maintenance codes tell the category of maintenance authorized to USE and REPAIR support items. The maintenance codes are entered in the third and fourth positions of the SMR code as follows:

(a) The maintenance code entered in the third position tells the lowest maintenance category authorized to remove, replace, and use an item. The maintenance code entered in the third position will indicate authorization to one of the following categories of maintenance. Code Application/Explanation C __ Crew or operator maintenance done within organizational or aviation maintenance. O __ Organizational or aviation unit category can remove, replace and use the item. (b) The maintenance code entered in the fourth position tells whether or not the item is to be repaired and identifies the lowest maintenance category with the capability to do complete repair (i.e., perform all authorized repair functions). This position will contain one of the following maintenance codes. NOTE Some limited repair may be done on the item at lower category of maintenance, if authorized by the Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC) and SMR codes. Code D __ O __ Z __ Application/Explanation Depot is the lowest category that can do complete repair of the item. Organizational (or aviation unit) is the lowest level that can do complete repair of the item. Nonreparable. No repair is authorized.

(3) Recoverability Code. Recoverability codes are assigned to items to indicate the disposition action on unserviceable items. The recoverability code is entered in the fifth position of the SMR Code as follows: Code Application/Explanation Z __ Nonreparable Item. When unserviceable, condemn and dispose of the item at the category of maintenance shown in the third position of SMR Code. O __ Reparable Item. When uneconomically reparable, condemn and dispose of the item at organizational or aviation unit level. A __ Item requires special handling for specific reasons (e.g., precious metal content, high dollar value, critical material, or hazardous material). Refer to appropriate manuals/ directives for specific instructions. c. NSN (Column (3)). This column lists the National Stock Number for the associated part number and manufacturer identified in the part number and CAGEC columns to the left. d. CAGEC (Column (4)). The Commercial and Government Entity Code (CAGEC) is a 5-digit numeric code which is used to identify the manufacturer, distributor, or Government agency, etc., that supplies the item. e. Part Number (Column (5)). Indicates the primary number used by the manufacturer (individual,

company, firm, corporation, or Government activity), which controls the design and characteristics of the item by means of its engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and inspection requirements to identify an item or range of items. NOTE When using a NSN to requisition an item, the item received may have a different part number from the part ordered. f. Description and Usable on Code (UOC) (Column (6)). This column includes the following information. (1) The Federal Item name and, when required, a minimum description to identify the item. (2) If the item is not the same for all models, a Usable On Code will appear next to the description. If an item is used on all models of the end item, there will be no Usable On Code listed (3) The statement "END OF FIGURE" appears just below the last item description. g. Quantity (Column (7)). Indicates the quantity of the item used in the breakout shown on the illustration figure, which is prepared for a functional group, subfunctional group, or an assembly.

C-4. Special Information National stock numbers (NSN's) that are missing from P source coded items have been applied for and will be added to this TM by future changes/revisions when they are entered in the Army Master Data File (AMDF). Until the NSN's are established and published, submit exceptions requisitions to: Commander, US Army Communications-Electronics Command and Fort Monmouth, ATTN; AMSEL-LC-MM, Fort Monmouth, NJ 07703-5000 for the part required to support the equipment. C-5. How to Locate Repair Parts. a. When National stock number or part number is not known: (1) First. Using the Table of Contents, determine the assembly group or subassembly group to which the item belongs. This is necessary since figures are prepared for assembly groups and subassembly groups, and listings are divided into the same groups. (2) Second. Find the figure covering the assembly group or subassembly group to which the item belongs. (3) Third. Identify the item on the figure and note the item number.

(4) Fourth. Refer to the Repair Parts List for the figure to find the part number and NSN noted on the figure. b. When National stock number or part number is known. (1) First. Using the Part Number Index, find the pertinent part number. (2) Second. After finding the figure and item number, locate the item number in the repair parts list figure, and verify that the item is the one wanted.

D-1. Scope This appendix lists integral components of the basic issue items for the AN/PEQ-2A to help inventory items required for safe and efficient operation. D-2. General This Components of End Item List is divided into the following sections: a. Section II. Integral Components of the End Item. These items, when assembled, comprise the AN/PEQ2A and must accompany it whenever it is transferred or turned in. The illustrations will help identify these items. b. Section III. Basic Issue Items. These are the minimum essential items required to place the AN/PEQ-2A in operation, to operate it, and to perform emergency repairs. Although shipped separately packed, they must accompany the end item during operation and whenever it is transferred between accountable officers.

The illustrations will assist with hard-to-identify items. This manual is the authority to requisition replacement BII, based on TOE/MTOE authorization of the end item. D-3. Explanation of Columns a. Illustration. This column is divided as follows: (1) Figure number. Indicates the figure's number for the illustration on which the item is shown. (2) The number used to identify the item called out in the illustration. b. National Stock Number. Indicates the National Stock Number assigned to the item which will be used for requisitioning. c.
