March 28, 2010 Greetings from Jakarta, Indonesia! Welcome to the first International Public Speaking and Debating Competition in Jakarta First of all allow me to extend my heartiest congratulations on being a participant for the first International Public Speaking and Debating Competition (IPSDC) held by the London School of Public Relations, Jakarta (www.lspr.edu). Your participation in this event has enabled this event to continue as planned; we have secured 24 teams to debate and 10 participants to orate in this competition. On behalf of the London School of Public Relations (LSPR) and the IPSDC organizing committee, we would like to once again confirm with you with your attendance at the competition below with the following details: The International Public Speaking and Debating Competition Date: 8th of April to 10th of April 2010 Time: 0900 am 8th of April 2010, (reporting time) Venue: The London School of Public Relations, Jakarta Organized by LSPR, this competition is a landmark 3 days of international competition gathering youths across Asia to engage in meaningful debate on communication and its studies in Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Mass Communication and Media. Admission into this competition immediately recognizes you as a youth that not only strive for the development of your critical thinking and debating skills but for the development of network between peers across Asia. In this competition, students coming from Indonesia will have a chance to compete and communicate with students from Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the newly independent East Timor. It is our hopes that this competition will forge lasting bonds between both local and foreign participants, while enabling them to gain new insight and grasp important issue regarding communication in both sides. We hope that people coming into this competition will come in the form of lasting, resilient partnership that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries. Please find in the following pages, a complete information regarding the event.

IPSDC 2010 Motions The motions for the competition are: 1. This house would prosecute the PR agency which lies in covering up the product failure that harms peoples health. 2. This house believe that mainstream media is losing to social media network 3. This house believe that ghostwriting should be ban in any kind of publications 4. This house believe that public opinion is greater than the mass media 5. This house believe that publicity is better than advertising 6. This house believe that we need a real name registration system for the internet users 7. This house would ban the extremist speech of politician from all media 8. This house would not allow marketing PR to associate donation with sales 9. This house would broadcast the live image of war These motions will be used during the preliminary to the final round.

Public Speaking Competition This competition aims to rate the excellence of future practitioner or those who are interested in communication. Our format will be a combination of prepared speech and impromptu presentation. As we just celebrated Earth Hour on 27th March 2010, and coinciding with LSPRs own Environment Month we are using this momentum to promote LSPRs own stance for the protection of the environment and at the same time its dedication to the development of our students. The Public Speaking Competition aims to encourage youth across Asia to reflect how they are an ever growing force to be reckoned, that also supports the protection of the environment for future youth generation. Speech Presentation (Marking: 40%) First Day 1. Participants to deliver 7 10 minutes prepared speech 2. Speech should be themed around Empowering the Youth & Defending the Earth. 3. Participants should prepare for submission the script of the speech (3 copies). 4. Script of the speech will be handed upon Briefing for Participants (see August 8, 2010). The script is typed in A4 paper, using Arial font, 12pt, with double spacing. Cover should state the title, name of author, and institution. 5. Participants will then deliver the speech in front of an audience. 6. The speech will be marked based on the content of the speech (45%), and the delivery (55%). Impromptu Presentation (Marking: 60%) Second Day 1. Participants will be handed out individually, a unique study case. 2. Participants are then asked to respond to the case by preparing a power point presentation. Facilities are available within the venue for conducting research and creating presentation. 3. A preparation time of two hours is provided. 4. Participants will then present their case in front of a panel of judges. 5. The mark will be based on power point (15%), content (40%), and delivery (45%).

The points will be accumulated from these two rounds and the announcement of the winner will be in the final and awarding night.

Important Announcement For all participant We kindly ask for participants to bring the following items during the competition: 1. Payment; for local participant who choose to pay on the spot. 2. Valid Student Card, as registered in the registration form 3. At least a set of formal attire for the opening ceremony (Be prepared to bring another set to attend the closing ceremony) 4. University uniform to be used during the competition 5. Casual attire for the city tour 6. Personal name card (If you have for ease in networking) For local participant 1. We have appointed two (2) LO for your convenience during the competition, their contact details will be forwarded to you before the competition. Please keep it as they will escort you during competition in our campus; from your arrival, during competition, and until your departure. 2. Please do not be late during the competition. Because our campus is located near the main road of Sudirman, please expect heavy traffic during the morning. We advise to time your departure to the venue wisely. 3. Within our campus, you will find problems with parking space. We are finding a way to accommodate this, but until further notice we wouldnt recommend you to drive your own car unless you have a personal/campus driver. For local participant coming outside of Jakarta 1. In additional to number 1 above, please inform us your flight/train/bus details (latest on Wednesday), so we could pick you up. We suggest you to arrive at the latest in Jakarta on Thursday, 8 August 2010, at 9.00 am. For foreign teams 1. If you havent, please send us your flight details. We will arrange a pick up for you at the airport. We suggest you to arrive at the 7th of August, we strongly advise you not to arrive at the day of the competition (even at the earliest flight). 2. A welcoming party will carry a poster for you to spot at the airport (see next page) 3. The welcoming party will be your Liaison Officer (LO) during the competition; they will escort you during competition in our campus; from your arrival, during competition, and until your departure.
