BRICKWORKS INSTALLATION WORK METHOD STATEMENT

1.0

General 1.1 This Method Statement deals with the procedures on how the bricks will be laid for wall formations.

2.0

Scope of work 2.1 Supply, delivered and installation of bricks to all the structures in accordance with specification, requirements and drawing provided.

3.0

3.2 The progress of works shall be monitored and the number of equipments listed above shall be reviewed from time to time. 4.0 Materials 4.1 4.2 4.3 4.4 5.0 Bricks (common clay bricks) with approval from the consultants. Cement mortar mix. Approved Exmet at every 4th course/layer. Approved damp proof course material be applied in between dry and wet wall.

Handling and Storage of Materials 5.1 Handling 5.2 Storage Storing of bricks will be done at the designated area in the site. 2 When unloading a bundle of bricks, mobile crane or forklift at the site will be used for the work.

Work Procedures for Brick Works. 6.1 6.2 Preparation Works. Clear the working area and it is accessible and passable. Confirm relevant approved construction drawing from consultants. To allow for mockup panel at location to be determined. Damp or Shower with water the group of bricks prior to laying. Setting out of the locations and position for brickworks with references lines. Laying of Bricks for Wall formations.

Mix cement in accordance with the specification and standard required. Transport mixed mortar to the brickwork area using wheel barrows or other appropriate methods. Clean the surface to receive the bricks and ensure it is free from grease or dirt. Provide reinforcement stiffeners according to engineers specifications. Provide horizontal tie beams where necessary according to engineers details. Install dowel bars at the reinforced concrete walls or columns, face the bars to the direction of brick wall. Setting out of brickworks with reference to the gridlines. Damp Proof Course(DPC) laying on the ground floor. Place mortar to a maximum of 10mm thick onto the bricks surface suing spatula. Ensure that there is no air pocket in the mortar joints. Moveable scaffolding required for bricks laying above 1500mm height. Maintain the joints evenly during laying of bricks. Do not allow straight vertical joints. Joints to be raked out to receive plastering for exterior plastering and flush to receive internal plastering. Brush away loose mortar and dust. Provide exmet reinforcement and dowel bar from r.c. structures at every forth course of the brick wall. Repeat the laying process until the wall is completed. Check the verticality of brick wall frequently during laying of bricks. Use a plumb or spirit level or Carpentry Thread. Carry out joint inspection with the clerk of work (C.O.W.) on bricks wall during setting out.

7.0

Safety Measured at the Site 7.1 All work shall be carried out in accordance to the safety standard required by the relevant authorities. 7.2 Personal protective equipment shall be worn at all time to avoid any unwanted incidence. 7.3 Proper attire, safety shoes, safety vest and helmet shall be provided. 7.4 Safety procedure will be carried out accordingly. 7.5 When work is completed, housekeeping will be required to keep the work area clean and tidy, thus to ensure the place is safe.
