Spring 2013

Get creative What could you build with a paper plate, some putty, drinking straws, pipe cleaners, and a styrofoam cup? During a team-building activity at an Aim Right camp, that was the challengewith a catch. A finished masterpiece was available for viewing by only one member from each team. That person could

challenge. Would the young boys lunch stretch that far? You know the story. Jesus took what was available, even though it seemed pitifully insignificant to meet the need, and multiplied the food until everyone was fully satisfied. There were even twelve baskets of leftovers! building, and the clubs expanded to include English, gymnastics, and music classes, camps, and eventually a boys and girls club (revolutionary for that day!). Each club included a short Bible message, typically right in the middle of the club time. They were able to lead many young people to Christ. Watch Him do a lot What began as a simple walking club, borne out of Corries obedience to share Jesus with the youth in her city, eventually extended beyond Holland, with nearly 7,000 members. The clubs had to close when the war began. Corrie notes: I was so grateful that the time in our clubs had not been wasted in just building good citizens, but that we had the opportunity to learn the vital message of Jesus victory, which would give strength for the suffering which awaited many of us. 1 Reach out What could God be asking you to offer to Him? Be encouraged that when you pray for at-risk youth, give to the needs of this ministry, or serve as an intern or volunteer, He is the One who will be faithful to multiply the impact! 1. Our efforts and steps of faith may seem insignificant compared to the vast needs of our community and city, but God takes our faith and service and multiplies the impact.
briefly view the finished product and then had to describe how to make the structure to their teammates. Adolescent-onset amnesia occurred as they tried to remember all of the details. Meanwhile, the builders struggled to get the straws just right to support the flimsy styrofoam cup. Meet the Creator One day Jesus was given five loaves of bread and two fish. The catch? Make enough food to feed 5,000 hungry men and their families. Jesus own disciples who had already witnessed many of Hismiracles were even skeptical about this Give God a little While Corrie ten Boom is perhaps best remembered as a Holocaust survivor, in the years before the Holocaust, she was burdened with a need in her community. The church was doing little about meeting the spiritual needs of youth ages twelve to eighteen. Corrie and her sister Betsie began the Church Walk Club. They invited several girls to meet them before the youth service began on Sundays, and they would walk and play in the dunes before the service. Soon other women joined as leaders of the teen girls, they rented a

Its good to stop and reflect on what God has done. In this article, Jewel Miller does just that.

How has God been working in Sunnyslope in the past few months?
First of all, I must admit I feel like I have had to take a backseat to the action and doing parts of the ministry here in Sunnyslope. (Somehow having a child of our own changes and shifts priorities.) Thankfully we have been blessed with a few new faces who have hit the ground running! Almost a year ago we didn't know how we would be able to keep ministering with all the changes we faced in our own personal lives: A.J. was taking chemotherapy treatments for cancer, and I was expecting our first child. God knew what we were facing, and He knew how it would all work out! PTL! God has truly blessed the ministry in this time of transition with kids who are hungry for truth and volunteers who have been willing to leave their comfort zones to teach that truth! A.J. now continues with all his previous teaching and shuttle van duties, and I have become the general crowd control for the classroom times. Numerous new volunteers have gone above and beyond to not only fill in the gaps but also truly connect with the kids. We are left feeling so very thankful! We are grateful for all the help our Father has sent our way just when we needed it. We continue to pray for even more hearts to be prompted to step out and provide hope for Sunnyslope.

In February, we were blessed with a visit from several staff with New Horizons Ministries (Colorado). The group provided Rec Center games, helped with Kids Klub and Teen Night, and completed work projects around the facility.

Despite a rainy, cool weekend, Aim Rights annual auction brought in over $20,000. Praise God!

Youth volunteered at Feed My Starving Children one evening, packaging meals to send to needy persons around the world.

Intern director Caleb Reed is excited about the changes in the Intern Program. Some of the improvements include a schedule that allows for more community involvement, as well as an updated, more intense training program. During an orientation weekend, new interns will learn how to define their purpose and pursue youth with the love of Jesus, visit other local ministries, and participate in prayer walks around the community.
Former interns Roger Beachy and David Varela visit community children. These boys are now 10 and 12 years old and still coming to Aim Right.

Intern orientation weekend is August 30-Sept. 2, 2013. Positions are still open for male or female interns. If you are at least 18 years old and willing to commit to 1 year of service, you may download an application from our website, or call Caleb for more information at (614) 582-2873.
