Application

Screw conveyors are used for horizontal, inclined, or vertical transport of bulk and granulated materials. FLS Serew Conveyors are designed for inclined transport (up to 8o') of material with temperatures below 300oC. They have a conveying capacity up to 550 m3/h and are manufactured up to 60 m length. An 0.30-0.35 degree of filling is recommended, depending on the material (e.g. filter dust and coal meal 0.32, cement and raw meal 0.35). The FLS Screw Conveyors designed in modules of 500 mm are supplied with steel plate trough (standard) or for use in a concrete trough. The screw pitch is individual for each of the ten conveyor sizes to attain lowest power consumption and smooth transport. The screw is completely enclosed, so the conveyance is weatherproof and dust-free. End bearings take up axial as well as radial stresses. They are of the heavy roller type and are grease packed. Intermediate block bearings support the screw at 4-6 m intervals.

Design and operation

Intermediate bearings can withstand the high temperatures and consist of Cralloyed bearing shells and Cr-Mo-alloyed special hardened journals. Intermediate bearings are suspended in open adjustable bearing bridges. The maintenance requirements of the FLS Screw Conveyors are negligible. Intermediate bearings may be greased, though not strictly necessary. An automatic grease pump is available as an optional extra. The cover sections are secured by quick-action eccentric locks for easy inspection. Type designations of the FLS Screw Conveyors (e.g. P 1120 or B 500) indicate steel plate or concrete trough (P or B) and helix diameter (mm). The complete designation indicates additionally drive shaft end diameter (mm) and through length (m), e.g. P 1120x125x30. The FLS manufacturing programme for screw conveyors also includes types for sticky materials, single and double extraction screws, and inclining or vertical transport.

Example : Material with a bulk density of 1.2 kg/I to be horizontally conveyed 26 m at a rate of 300 m3/h

Solution : FLS Screw Conveyor size 1120 with a 0.32 filling degree requires a speed of rotation of 24 rpm

With a bulk density of 1.2 kg/I a standard motor of 45 kW is required. Weight : 1,090 + (26 x 585) = 16,300 kg
