Derive the equations of motion of a rigid body subjected to inertial forces and moments illustrate with sketches. Give a comprehensive introduction to the concept and use of derivatives in determining aircraft stability, After explaining a systematic method for expressing aerodynamic forces, moments and derivatives in dimensionless form. Derive an expression for the contribution of the various parts of the airplane to the total airplane stability with required sketches. Explain the aerodynamic forces on elevator-stabilizer configuration in the stick free condition of an airplane. (a) (b) Draw the maneuver envelope (V-N) diagram for a typical fighter airplane and Explain in detail, the features and significance of the V-N diagram: (i) The aircraft designer. (ii) The pilot. Bring out the relationship between yaw and roll of an airplane in the following cases: Rolling moment with yaw rate. Yawing moment with roll rate. Show with two examples, that the lateral and directional dynamics of airplane are strongly coupled, Explain from the characteristics equation of lateral-directional dynamics, the types of oscillations of the airplane.

What is static stability and dynamic stability, with respect to an aero plane, explain about the: Longitudinal stability. Lateral stability. Directional stability. Derive the equations of linearized coupled equations. Explain in detail the stability derivatives which effect the pitch and roll of an aircraft. Establish that (dcm/dc1) fixed is the criterion of static longitudinal stability of airplane. Hence develop an expression for the same for an airplane with conventional wing tail contribution. Include the effect of power plant in the expression. Explain the contribution of each part of the airplane.

Using proper sketches, explain stick free longitudinal stability of an airplane. Trim tabs. Stick fixed and stick free conditions. Write short notes on: Stick-force gradients. Maneuver points. Maneuver margins. Write the lateral-directional equations of motion of an aircraft and describe each term of the equation. Define dynamic stability and response to control, bring out the solutions to the stability quartic of the linearised equations of motion.

(a) (b) Explain the effects of flexibility on the stability of flying aircraft. Explain the effects of structural flexibility. Derive an expression for stick fixed neutral point of an airplane. Define floating tendency and restoring tendency in the case of stick-free longitudinal stability and derive the expression for control surface angle. Define and explain the stick-free maneuver point Nm1 in terms of N01 and the derivatives and explain all the terms involved. Write short notes on: Rubber lock. One engine inoperative conditions. Lateral and directional stability. Explain about: Short period Dutch roll. Phugoid mode. Autorotation and spin.
