Social Action in Our Community - April 2013

We join our community in acting to provide relief for our neighbors, the injured and displaced people and animals as a result of the devastating explosion in West. There is likely going to be an ongoing need for support and service. This week many of us have served individually in different capacities. There are a number of websites that provide information about how you can assist in the efforts. Among the organizations involved in providing relief are the Heart of Texas Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org/tx/waco), Caritas of Waco (http://caritas-waco.org/), and many volunteer donation sights. Tangible needs have changed over the past two days from blood, to blankets and bottled water, to coolers, and cell phone chargers. Contact a donation sight to find out what is needed most at this time. Recent correspondence suggests that monetary donations are the best at this time to prevent tangible donations from accumulating and possibly going to waste. You can find more ways to assist by going to the website for the Waco Tribune Herald: http://www.wacotrib.com/news/greater_waco/west/wave-ofcommunity-support-assistance-flows-to-west-disaster/article_a87e3dc7-f85c-5cb58cdf-14500552706f.html
