To build quality manpower that can efficiently handle planning, analysis and design of engineering infrastructure at the coast as well as in the open ocean and also look after their construction, management and operation. To create individuals with strong fundamentals in ocean technology - having high problem solving skills. To create future leaders of ocean industries, policy planners and administrators of ocean infrastructure.
Scope The curriculum will expose the students particularly to the study of coastal and ocean infrastructure including port, dock and harbor structures, coastal protection works and offshore oil platforms, navigation. Included in the course works are the latest concerns on ocean environment, changing coastal laws and sea policies.

Prospects - Consulting firms dealing with planning, data collection, analysis, design and operation of coastal and ocean facilities.
> 100 such firms operate in India includes large Indian companies like CES(I),
AFCONS, HCC and multinationals like Holland Marine, Akzo Nobel and Wartslia.
-> 200 major and minor ports in our country - Innumerable shipping lines - Research labs (NIO, NIOT, CWPRS, INCOIS....) - Regulatory authorities like the MoES, Ministry of Shipping, ONGC - Large scope for research in academic institutions over the world including the IITs
