HOT BUTTON a Potholder

Materials:
Tahki Cotton Classic MC #3226 - Oatmeal CC1 #3778 - Robins Egg blue CC2 #3424 - Light Cantaloupe or #3402 - Dark Orange or #3424 - Deep Red F/5/3.75mm hook 1 plastic ring for hanging loop tapestry needle Scissors Finished size: about 7.5 x 7.5

(You will need one skein each of 3 different colors for a single potholder 2 each of MC and CC1 for three potholders)

Abbreviations: ch - chain, dc - double crochet, sl st - slip stitch, st(s) - stitch(es), sc - single crochet, rep - repeat, ea - each, sp(s) - space(es), Special Stitches: Ch4 picot: ch4, slip stitch to the side of the sc at the base of the chain

Make Back:
With CC2 - make a Sliding ring Round 1: Chain 5(counts as 1dc and ch2), [*4dc into ring, ch2] 3 times, 3dc into ring, close the sliding ring, sl st to 3rd ch of ch5 to join. (16dc) Round 2: Ch2 (counts as 1dc), *[2dc,ch2,2dc] in ch 2 sp, 1dc in ea dc to next ch 2 sp, rep from * around ending with sl st to 2nd ch of ch 2 to join. (32dc) Round 3: Ch2 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in ea st to ch2 sp, *[2dc,ch2,2dc] in ch 2 sp, 1dc in ea dc to next ch 2 sp, rep from * around ending with sl st to 2nd ch of ch 2 to join. Fasten off. (48dc) Round 4: Join CC1 in and ch2 sp, ch1, *3sc in ch 2 sp, 1sc in ea st across to next ch 2 sp; rep from * around, join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off (60sc) Round 5: Join CC2 to first sc of any corner, Ch2(counts as 1dc), 1dc in same st, ch2, sk 1 st, 2dc in next st, *1dc in ea st across to next corner, 2dc in first sc of corner, ch2, sk 1 st, 2dc in next st; rep from * three times, 1dc in ea st across the last side, join with sl st to 2nd ch of ch 2, (64 dc) Round 6: Ch2 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in ea st to ch2 sp, *[2dc,ch2,2dc] in ch 2 sp, 1dc in ea dc to next ch 2 sp, rep from * around ending with sl st to 2nd ch of ch 2 to join. Fasten off. (80 dc) Round 7: Join CC1 in and ch2 sp, ch1, *3sc in ch 2 sp, 1sc in ea st across to next ch 2 sp; rep from * around, join with sl st to first sc. (96dc) Round 8: Ch2 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in ea st to ch2 sp, *[2dc,ch2,2dc] in ch 2 sp, 1dc in ea dc to next ch 2 sp, rep from * around ending with sl st to 2nd ch of ch 2 to join. Fasten off. (112dc)

Make Front:
With MC ch33 Row 1A: 1dc in 4th ch from hook(counts as 1dc and ch1), 1dc in ea of next 2 chs, *ch1, sk 1 ch, 1dc in ea of next 3 chs; rep from * across to last 2 chs, ch1, 1dc in last ch - DO NOT TURN WORK (seven 3dc groups). Row 1B: join CC2 to 3rd ch of ch3 in A row below, ch1, sc in same st, *sc in ch1 sp, ch3, sk 3dcs; rep from * across, 1sc in last dc

Row 2A: put hook back in loop from Row 1A, Ch3(counts as 1dc and ch1), turn, *3dc in ch3 sp, ch1, skip sc; rep from* across, 1dc in last sc - DO NOT TURN WORK Row 2B: put hook back in loop from Row 1B, Ch4, 1sc in 2nd ch of ch3 in A row below, *sc in ch1 sp, ch3, sk 3dcs; rep from * across, 1sc in last dc Row 3A: Repeat Row 2A Row 3B: join CC1 to 2nd ch of ch3 in A row below, ch1, sc in same st, *sc in ch1 sp, ch3, sk 3dcs; rep from * across, 1sc in last dc Row 4A: Repeat Row 2A Row 4B: put hook back in loop from Row 2B, Ch5, 1sc in 2nd ch of ch3 in A row below, *sc in ch1 sp, ch3, sk 3dcs; rep from * across, 1sc in last dc Repeat Row 2A and 2B four times more Repeat Row 2A once more

Edging:
Round 1: Join CC1 to 1st ch of foundation chain, ch1, 3sc in same st, 1sc in ea ch across bottom edge, 3sc in last ch of bottom edge, *2sc around ch/dc at end of next A row, 1sc in end of next B Row; rep from * across ending with 5sc in end of last A Row, 1sc in ea dc and ch1 sp across top edge, **1sc in end of next B Row, 2sc around ch/dc at end of next A row; rep from ** along side edge ending with sl st in first sc to join. Fasten off. (122sc) Round 2: This round will be worked through BOTH layers - With wrong sides together, Join CC2 to center sc of any 3sc corner group(ch2 space on back piece), ch1, sc in same st, ch1, 20sc around plastic ring, sl st to first sc on ring to join, sl st into side of sc at base, sk 1 st, 1sc in ea of next 3 sts, *ch4 picot, 1sc in ea of next 3 sc; rep from * around ending with sl st to first sc to join. Fasten off.

Round 3: With MC, join yarn to any sc just to the left of a picot, ch1, sc in same st, 1sc in ea of next 2 sts, *ch1, fold picot down onto surface of front and hold in place, bring hook and working yarn behind picot, 1sc in ea of next 3 sts; rep from * around ending with a sl st to first sc to join. Fasten off and weave in ends. When blocking pull each picot out and pin.
